Arsenal captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has revealed Arsenal hero Ian Wright has inspired him and strike partner Alexandre Lacazette.

Aubameyang is enjoying another excellent season. The Gabon international notched up his 15 of the season in Sunday’s 4-0 win over Newcastle.

His strike partner Alexandre Lacazette was also relieved to get on the score sheet. Laca, who was dropped ahead of the match, had gone nine games without a goal.

Prior to the match, Aubameyang revealed how former Arsenal star Ian Wright has helped spur both he and Lacazette on.

As reported by The Sun, Aubameyang said: “On Thursday, I spent quite a lot of time with Ian Wright.

“It’s always a pleasure to see him and to chat to him. He is an icon and inspiration for me and everyone at the club and around the club.

“I admire him as a man and as an Arsenal legend. He was so, so good on the pitch but also really chilled.

“He has the same mentality that Laca and I have, that’s why we get on so well.”
