Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is a shadow of him former self.
That’s according to Arsenal legend Alan Smith who is concerned about the form of Arsenal’s record signing.
The 28 year-old arrived at the Emirates in January from Borussia Dortmund for a club-record fee of £55m. The Gabon international has scored twice in his four appearances, but has struggled for chemistry with his new teammates.
Aubameyang netted during Arsenal’s 2-1 defeat to Birghton on Sunday. But Smith admits he’s disappointed with what he’s seen from the striker so far.
“He looked a shadow of the player he was at Dortmund,” he said.
“Even he, in the short time he’s been at Arsenal, has been affected by the mood.
“He got his goal with a little flick, but he’s not the player I hoped he would be.
“I’m not saying he’s a bad player, but it’s a malaise through the dressing room and he’s been affected.”
Sunday’s defeat marked Arsenal’s 10th of the season. Arsene Wenger has told his players to forget about claiming a top four place. The Gunners only hope of a return to Champions League football will be via a Europa League triumph.
Aubameyang is cup-tied for Arsenal’s trip to AC Milan on Thursday.
