Barcelona are set to curtail their interest in Liverpool’s Phillipe Coutinho and target Mesut Ozil in January, according to reports.

The Catalan side pursued Coutinho throughout the summer, but were unable to sign the Brazilian despite reports they offered the Reds £138m for his services.

Meanwhile, Ozil, who is out of contract with the Gunners at the end of the season would be availabe for a cut-price in the New Year.

To his own admission, Arsene Wenger revealed that both the German and Alexis Sanchez could be sold in January.

With the Merseysider’s refusing to part with Coutinho, Barcelona are set to target the cheaper Ozil. The 29 year-old is also eligible to compete in the Champions League in the second half of the season, with Arsenal not involved in the tournament.

Jose Mourinho remains interested in Ozil and the Spanish giants will likely have to fight off Manchester United for his signature.
