Bournemouth beat Arsenal 2-1 on Sunday to leave the Gunners’ top four hopes are in tatters.

Arsene Wenger left Alexis Sanchez out of the squad amid reports that the forward is on the verge of leaving the club. Mesut Ozil was also sidelined as he continues to nurse a knee injury.

Despite Sanchez’s absence it was Wenger’s side who took the lead seven minutes after the restart. Alex Iwobi found Hector Bellerin with an inch-perfect through ball before the Spaniard struck low and hard to beat Asmir Begovic.

However, the Cherries came back fighting and capitalised on some mishaps at the back from the Gunners.

First it was Callum Wilson to put Eddie Howe’s side on level terms. The Englishman met Ryan Frazier’s cross ahead of Petr Cech to equalise on 70 minutes.

Four minutes later, Granit Xhaka failed to track Jordan Ibe’s  run and the 22 year-old rifled home the winner.

The result has left the Gunners eight points adrift of a top-four place. Time will tell as to whether Wenger brings in personnel to replace Alexis Sanchez.
