Arsenal suffered their eighth defeat since the turn of the year after being unstuck by Brighton at the Falmer Stadium.
Arsene Wenger deployed a strong line up, with Henrikh Mkhitaryan returning to the starting XI as well as Jack Wilshere who had recovered from a knock.
However, the Gunners found themselves 2-0 down after half an hour. Lewis Dunk put Brighton ahead when he hooked the ball home from a corner after it dropped to him inside the six-yard box.
Glen Murray grabbed the second after heading in from close range.
Wenger’s men did show some resilience. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang scored his second in a Gunners shirt just before the break.
Both teams had half-chances in the second period, but the scoreline remained the same. Arsenal are now 14 points off the Champions League places and Wenger has conceded the fight to finish in the top four.
