Brozovic, Smalling? 5 most uninspiring Arsenal rumours heard so far

Arsenal want who? What team does he play for? Where is that? Sound familiar? Of course it does. Gooners are no strangers to left field transfer targets and while we are sometimes up for a little bargain, we do often get sick of uninspiring rumours. It seems every week Arsenal is being linked with another lesser known player, and its not that the player isn’t talented, its just that Arsenal could and should be targeting better. Other times, the player has the name but not that talent and Arsenal fans are left scratching their heads in bewilderment. Some of these names have appeared on Arsenal-mania this year already so bare with me, but it goes to show how truly unexciting they are. We can take solace in the fact that they are only rumours and probably won’t pan out, but in the off case that they are true and my words hold any power, here is my pick for the five most uninspiring Arsenal rumours I’ve heard thus far this season.

Tyrone Mings

I remember watching Mings play for Ipswich and thinking “this boy isn’t half bad.” Good stature and descent awareness, I thought maybe one day we will see him in the Premier League. I also remember my mood instantly changing when he began being linked with Arsenal. “Really?,” I exclaimed out loud and my initial thought was where would he fit and where would that leave the likes of Chambers, Bellerin, and Jenkinson when he gets back. I rate all three higher than Mings by the way, and I cannot think of a more pointless signing than he would be at the moment. (I said way may see him in the Premier League, I said nothing about Arsenal)
 Marcelo Brozović

The Croatian has had a descent first half of the season with Zagreb. And we all know a half season is all you need to earn a big transfer right? Right? I didn’t think so. I rate Brozovic, but I also rate the 12 or 13 similar midfielders players Arsenal already possess in his position. Need I say more?
                                                                                                Grzegorz Krychowiak

As good a player as I think he is, the transition to him from from the likes of Khedira, Bender and Kondogbia were heartbreaking to say the least. He has been exceptional for Sevilla this year, and to be a fair a part of me thinks he would be a good addition to Arsenal. The other part of me thinks he is still unproven for the most part and is not what Arsenal need to push them over the line. He just doesn’t quite instill the same fear in the opposition that the other names do.

Chris Smalling

So many questions, but I will just start with “why?” Smalling has been absolutely dreadful lately. In fact he hasn’t been good since Fulham. He would offer no improvement what so ever to the defenders Arsenal already have and I don’t even want to think about the price he would cost. His red card against City was among the most diabolical things I’ve seen take place on a pitch and there is no room at all for that at Arsenal. I’m tempted to add his teamate Phil Jones next, but the Jones rumours have subsided thankfully. If only the Smalling rumours would do the same.

Joseph Yobo

This was a real strecth even for Wenger. A 34 year old free agent? Really? Talk about uninspiring (no offence Flamini). A player I was a real fan of 9 years ago, I have not the slightest clue of what the the Joseph Yobo can do. I’m all for a bargain if you can find one, but this takes it to an all new level. Again, this rumour didn’t last long so I’m hoping it blew away for good and stays buried, but in the off chance Arsenal is seriously considering this I think I speak for most gooners when I say no thank you.
