Arsenal goalkeeper Petr Cech is chasing one last trophy to round off his glittering career.

The former Chelsea shotstopper, 36, is set to retire at the end of the season and could still add one more winner’s medal to his collection.

With Arsenal 3-1 up on Valencia in their Eruopa League semi-final and the Blues having claimed a 1-1 draw away to Eintracht Frankfurt in the other, the veteran could end up facing his old side in the final.

“It looks a big possibility, with us being in a good position and them having the second game at home. I don’t know if it’s a dream scenario or not.

“You have the last game of your career, a European final and then at the end you have an emotional attachment to the opposition team from the past, which probably is a bit too much. But if it happens, it happens. It’s the way it is.

“I was laughing. I was saying we would go to Prague [in his Czech Republic homeland] for one game, then go to Rennes [the club he left for Stamford Bridge] and then the final against Chelsea. Then we went to Rennes [in the last 16] and then the quarter-final draw was made and you look at the way Arsenal and Chelsea are kept apart and you go, ‘Hmm. OK, it’s coming.’”

Regardless of how Thursday plays out, Cech will be recognised as one of the best goalkeepers of the modern era. No one comes close to matching his 202 clean sheets in the Premier League. He’s also won the league four times, five FA Cups and one Europa League.
