Charlie Nicholas has called for Unai Emery to drop Matteo Guendouzi.

The Arsenal legend believes Guendouzi is currently having a ‘shocker’ in the middle of the park with both he and the club stuttering in form in recent weeks.

The 20-year-old has been a regular fixture in the Arsenal team this season and he has started all 12 of the Gunners’ Premier League games so far this season, notching up one assist for his team-mates.

Speaking in an interview quoted by Metro, Nicholas said: “I like Mateo Guendouzi but he is having an absolute shocker.

Matteo Guendouzi having a ‘shocker’ claims Nicholas

“He hasn’t earned the right to get in the team and if that means that some of these youngsters come on and play well, then they stay in the team, which is what competitive edge means.”

Guendouzi being dropped would likely see Dani Ceballos or Joe Willock replace him. Granit Xhaka’s career at Arsenal appears to be hanging by a thread following his spat with the fans several weeks ago.

Emery has found himself under increased pressure with Arsenal claiming just one win in six Premier League games and now eight points off the nearest Champions League spot.

Gooners, can we afford to drop Matteo? Let us know in the comments…
