Doncaster Manager Darren Ferguson says he’s been seeking advice from his Dad on how to beat Arsenal.

The two sides clash in the Carabao Cup tonight in their first meeting since 2005.

Arsene Wenger and Sir Alex Ferguson were immense rivals during the late 1990’s and early 2000’s, but the incendiary competition was later diffused as the Gunners dropped off the pace.

“There’s an enormous amount of respect between my dad and Arsene Wenger,” Ferguson Jr said (via Sky Sports). “A huge amount of respect, they get on very, very well.

“Listen, they were competitive, both of them. They had to have that sort of competitive edge towards it when they were managing but I’m looking forward to coming up against him.

“He [Wenger] is a great manager and obviously the aim is to get one over him but we know it is going to be difficult.”

The former Peterborough boss revealed that he’s been receiving tips off his Dad ahead of the match and that Sir Alex will be in attendance at The Emirates.

“Yeah, I speak to him at length but obviously this game. He’s going to be there, my mother is going to be there and my family so it’s good, good for everyone. All the lads’ families will be there but, like I say, it’s important we go there and put on a performance.”

A win would put Arsenal in to the fourth round. The Gunners haven’t surpassed the Quarter-finals since 2011, where they were beaten 2-1 in the final by Birmingham City.
