Unai Emery has hinted midfielder Lucas Torreira is ready to be deployed in a more advanced role.
Torreira started in Arsenal’s opening Europa League match with a convincing 3-0 away victory at Eintracht Frankfurt thanks to goals from Joe Willock, Bukayo Saka and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
The Uruguayan impressed as he played the full 90 minutes for the first time this season.
He opearted in a more attacking position than his customary defensive midfield role and Emery was quick to praise him impact.
Speaking of his performance after the clash, Emery said: “Tonight he played very well and this season it’s the first match that he was feeling physically very good in.
“He was able to go from box to box and I want to use his quality.”
The Spanish manager even suggested he might use Torreira, more often a defensive midfielder, as someone who could start to create goals for the Gunners. ‘
His qualities are that he can give us good pressing, and he can win the ball high up the pitch to give us the possession to score,’ Emery added.
‘He did that tonight. After, we need someone with the ball and in his position, he can help us with the build-up.’
