It is no secret to Arsenal fans that Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has been heavily linked with a move away from The Emirates this summer.
Chelsea, Liverpool and old club Southampton are amongst those said to be interested in the Englishman.
While opinion on whether he is needed at the club remains divided, there are few who would argue the Ox’s undoubted talent. Over the years, Chamberlain has proven himself to be a key asset to the club with his versatility, often filling in here, there and everywhere when needed.
Only last season did he play as a centre-midfielder, a winger and on occasion – to much applause – as a wing-back. That ability to play in a variety of positions is a gift that should not be taken for granted as it one that not many possess, however Arsenal are in danger of losing a talented player should they continue to take for granted the Ox’s contribution.
Being played inconsistently and often out of your favoured position can be extremely frustrating for a player, and if Arsene Wenger continues to do that with the former Southampton man, he will see him move to a rival club – namely Liverpool or Chelsea – something he will only live to regret.
Arguably at his best on the wing, Wenger needs to now play Chamberlain in his chosen position consistently. He will flourish, and he will succeed. There is no reason, when needs must, that he fills in for injuries or suspensions, but using him as a handyman is not right for player nor club.
