Arsenal’s loanee misfit Denis Suarez has opened up over his horrendous spell at the Emirates.

Excitement was in the air when the Spaniard arrived in north London in the January transfer window. After struggling to make a name for himself at Barcelona, Suarez was lured to Arsenal by former coach Unai Emery where he aimed to convince the Gunners to sign him during a short spell in the Premier League.

However, it soon turned into a nightmare spell for Suarez.

The player struggled with injury and when he did play, he failed to have much of an impact.

“I thought I had torn something; I was in a lot of pain,” Suarez explained (via 101GreatGoals).

Denis Suarez rarely represented Arsenal

“From then on I carried on training with medication and putting up with it as best I could but I didn’t feel right and [Unai] Emery didn’t think I was right. I wasn’t comfortable. I don’t think I was even at 50%.

“After 15 days of being at Arsenal, I wasn’t right. From the 16th I wasn’t even at 50%.”

Suarez failed to start a single league game following his move from the Nou Camp and you didn’t need to check the odds to know what he wasn’t going to stay any longer.

After a struggling term in north London and being put off the Premier League, Suarez is targeting a return to La Liga in order to rebuild his career.

Suarez has returned to Spain

“What I want is to leave and to play. Where? I don’t know. Wherever is best for me. I have to look at everything,” he continued.

“My idea is to stay in the Spanish League, to be near home and compete in La Liga.

“The experience of the Premier League, which is a league I love, didn’t go well because of the injury and I prefer to continue my career in Spain if I can.”

Suarez might not quite go down in history as Arsenal’s worst ever January transfer window loan signing.

That accolade could be given to Swedish international midfielder Kim Källström, who was signed back in 2017 and only managed three Premier League appearances and one outing in the FA Cup.

However, the Swede did net a penalty in a 4-2 shootout win against Wigan Athletic in the semi-final of the cup, so maybe Suarez just pips him to the post.
