Germany goalkeeper Bernd Leno has signed for Arsenal from Bayer Leverkusen, the club have confirmed.

The shot-stopper has joined for a reported 22m euros (£19.3m).

Leno made 230 appearances for Leverkusen across seven seasons in the Bundesliga and has won six caps for Germany but was not included in Joachim Low’s 23-man squad for the World Cup.

The Gunners are yet to confirm the length of Leno’s contract, but the ‘keeper is expected to be viewed as a longterm replacement for Petr Cech.

Arsenal conceded a staggering 51 goals in the Premier League last season and ultimately finished 6th.

New boss Unai Emery has worked quickly to rectify the problems at the back, having already recruited full-back Stephan Lichsteiner from Juventus.

As reported by Sky Sports News, the Gunners have also agreed a deal for Borussia Dortmund centre-back Sokratis Papastathopoulos, with the transfer expected to be formally announced on July 1.
