Arsenal have kicked off their summer recruitment by completing a deal for Stephan Lichsteiner.

The Switzerland captain Stephan Lichtsteiner arriving from Juventus is new coach Unai Emery’s first signing since arriving last month.

Lichsteiner, who made over 200 league appearances for Juve, this season helped the Old Lady win their, and his, seventh Serie A title on the trot.

Speaking about his new signing, Unai Emery believes the 34 year-old’s experience can only benefit the team.

Lichsteiner will be at this summer’s World Cup

“Stephan brings huge experience and leadership to us. He’s a player with great quality with a very positive and determined attitude,” said Emery (via BBC Sport).

“Stephan will improve us on and off the pitch.”

Lichtsteiner said moving to Arsenal represented a “challenge” and that he was “really positive” the club would “do great things” under Spaniard Emery.

The defender is set to be joined by Greek centre-half Sokratis Papastathopolous. The defender is expected to complete his £16m move from Borussia Dortmund this week.

Sokratis has been capped 79 times by Greece, while Lichtsteiner, who has played 99 times for Switzerland is part of their squad for the World Cup, which begins on 14 June in Russia.
