Arsenal are closing in on their first signing of the summer.

Borussia Dortmund defender Sokratis Papastathopolous arrived in London on Sunday evening and underwent a medical on Monday.

Reports say the Gunners will pay €20 million (£17.5m) for the central defender, who would’ve been out of contract with Dortmund next summer.

Sokratis made 130 Bundesliga appearances for Dortmund following his arrival in 2013. He won the German Super Cup twice and one German League Cup.

The Greek international has also been capped by his country 79 times.

Arsenal could further bolster their defence with Juventus defender Stephan Lichsteiner a suggested target. Meanwhile, the Gunners are also tipped to complete a deal for Marouane Fellaini on a free in the coming days after the Manchester United midfielder rejected two contract offers from the Red Devils.

It remains unclear whether any of the current defenders are set to leave the club.
