Arsenal will have to come from behind in the second-leg against BATE Borisov to secure themselves a place in the last 16 of the Europa League.

Unai Emery’s side suffered a surprise 1-0 defeat to the Belarusian outfit on Thursday night.

To add to their woes, Alexandre Lacazette was sent off for an elbow late on in the game, meaning he will miss the second leg and more if they progress.

Several Arsenal fans rated the performance up there with the worst they have ever seen and have started to question whether Emery is actually the right man for Arsenal. The frustration is only heightened by the absence of Mesut Ozil who was left at home.

However, the manager is expectant of his side to put things right at the Emirates next week.

“We play another 90 minutes next week and I am sure it is going to be different. The first half was a good performance, we had chances to score. I am happy with the players’ effort. Defensively when they were 1-0 up they were organised and competitive. Our big opportunity is next week at home.

“I trust in our players and in our stadium with our supporters. We can win or lose but I trust in our work and preparations to make a different result.”
