Unai Emery believes Rob Holding is a capable of keeping his spot in the centre of Arsenal’s defence.

Holding was drafted in to the side midway through Sunday’s first-half against Everton as a result of a knee injury suffered by Sokratis.

The Englishman impressed, helping his side achieve their first clean sheet of the season in the 2-0 win.

Holding is expected to appear when Arsenal take on Brentford in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday night.

The Bees travel to the Emirates Stadium looking to cause a third-round upset and with Emery expected to make wholesale changes to his team.

Sokratis was replaced by Holding after 34 minutes on Sunday

And Emery has challenged Holding to earn a permanent role in Arsenal’s defence.

“We need every player when chances and opportunities are coming because we need to also take more players to play,” he said.

“Like on Sunday, for example, after Sokratis’ injury it was important how Rob played and helped the team to find the performance to win against Everton.

“This match against Brentford is also a good opportunity for Rob to continue taking confidence, taking minutes and taking also our ideas of playing with minutes.

“I want to look at him also with our best performance and for him to stay in first XI.”

Arsenal were beaten finalists in the Carabao Cup last season and will be keen to go one step further and deliver the first trophy under the Emery era.
