Arsenal have been handed a blow in the transfer market after Monaco confirmed their intention to keep hold of young star Kylian Mbappe this summer, as reported by Metro.
The 18-year-old forward has enjoyed a remarkable breakthrough season with the French principality side, netting 15 goals across 28 games in all competitions- including the opening goal in last night’s 3-1 victory over Manchester City.
That victory saw Monaco advance to the quarter-finals following a 6-6 aggregate result and Mbappe, who scored in both legs of the Champions League Round of 16, has seen interest in his services rise significantly throughout the current campaign.
Monaco’s sensational season, which sees them top Ligue 1 as well as enjoying a fine march in Europe, is likely to see them raided this summer by top sides across European football but the club have made it clear they have no intention to cash-in on Mbappe.
Speaking after last night’s result, Monaco vice-president Vadim Vasilyev told RTL:
‘Our intention is to keep Kylian Mbappe. He is a product of our youth academy. He is our DNA. I am very proud. We have a real team. The first half [against City] was excellent – the sort of performance that the very top teams make.’
Monaco have already surpassed expectations this season but they stand as the only French side remaining in the Champions League, with their star-names really impressing.
