Barcelona are ready to rival Arsenal in the transfer market for the services of Lyon midfielder Corentin Tolisso, Spanish outlet Sport reports.

The 22-year-old has excelled in the past few seasons for his French employers but the possibility of a transfer away from Lyon has risen this season, as the former dominant side in Ligue 1 football have struggled to remain competitive against the likes of Paris Saint-Germain, Monaco and OGC Nice.

Tolisso has previously spoken about the possibility of moving to the Premier League, stating he dreams of moving to Arsenal or Barcelona, and the opportunity to choose between the pair could emerge this summer.

Barcelona could use Samuel Umtiti to their advantage as the French defender remains a close friend of Tolisso and swapped Lyon for Catalonia last summer, whilst the club’s sporting director was in attendance for Spain’s 2-0 win over France last night to keep tabs on a number of targets.

Capable of playing at right-back as well as in midfield, Barcelona see Tolisso as the man to fill the void left by Dani Alves’ move to Juventus last summer but the French ace may push to further his career as a central midfielder.

That opportunity could be difficult to come by at either side though, as Arsenal boast a wealth of options in the middle of the park whilst Barcelona also have star-names in that role- although Andres Iniesta is approaching the end of his career and Ivan Rakitic continues to be linked to an exit.
