Arsenal lost ground on Premier League leaders Chelsea.
Alexis Sanchez’s 12th league goal of the season midway through the first half got The Gunners off to a flyer. His free-kick deflected off the outstretched leg of Ashley Williams and evade Everton stopper Maarten Stekelenburg.
The goal failed to ensue Arsenal dominance and Everton got back into the game right on half time.
Leighton Baines’ whipped a cross from the left and Seamus Coleman arrived late to head in for his team.
The Gunners had opportunities to convert in the second half through strikes from Mesut Ozil and Alex Iwobi.
But it was Ronald Koeman’s side who took all three points when Ross Barkley’s corner was met by an unmarked Ashley Williams on 86 minutes.
Chelsea can now widen the gap to six points if they see off Sunderland tonight.
There’s hope for David Moyes’ side and Arsenal, The Blues are without star man Eden Hazard who picked up a knock on the weekend.
