Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand has told his former side to snap up Arsenal contract rebel Mesut Ozil.

The playmaker is out of contract with the club at the end of the season and appears reluctant to sign a new deal.

Ozil registered a man of the match performance in Arsenal’s 5-0 win over Huddersfield, scoring once and providing two assists. However, the German was unable to be the mastermind for victory at home to Ferdinand’s former club as the Red Devils ran out 3-1 winners on Saturday.

Ozil has been linked with a move to Old Trafford for some time, with his former Real Madrid boss Jose Mourinho said to be interested in signing him.

And Ferdinand believes he could be the missing cog for United to make the step up.

“He was amazing at Real Madrid. He’s a different player to what I’ve seen here,” Ferdinand said on BT Sport.

“His pace – he’s deceptively quick. And if you can get that out of him, his ability…“He’s a technician and I would take him at Manchester United all day long. A free transfer, no doubts.”
