Five most important Arsenal goals this season

This season has been a defining one for Arsenal. It could be the year Arsenal finally crack the top two for the first time in 10 years while also retaining the FA Cup crown after breaking a nine year trophy duct. Long story short, this is the year Arsenal finally announce to the football world that playtime is over.

With important milestones of course comes important moments to achieve those milestones and in football those moments just so happen to be goals. The gunners have scored a lot of goals this season, but perhaps none more important than the five on this list.

Have a look at the top five most important goals of the season for Arsenal.

Giroud vs Man City

Arsenal’s 2-0 win over City in January was vital for the side and finally broke the big game shackles that hindered them in recent seasons. Knocking off a major title rival away from home is not something Arsenal can say they have done in last few seasons, so to finally get that win was a massive monkey off our backs. We went ahead early but had to absorb loads of pressure before Giroud’s header gave us the breathing room we needed. Skip to 1:18 to re live it.

Welbeck vs United

Huge occasion, huge moment, for both Welbeck and for Arsenal. For Arsenal it was chance to return to Wembley for a second consecutive FA Cup semi final; for Welbeck it was a chance to show his former club what they missed out on. It wasn’t the most difficult goal he will ever score, but it showed real determination and you could see what it meant to him. It set us on our way to retain our title which we are now only one match away from doing, while also instilling some confidence in the lad.

Sanchez vs Besiktas

Huge, huge, goal. Arsenal needed a goal to secure their passage into the group stages of the Champions League and a plucky Besiktas side threatened to pull an upset. The first leg was a real stalemate and the second threatened to be the same, but our superman Alexis Sanchez had other ideas. It was also his first goal for the club, so it was important in more than one way.

Sanchez vs Reading

Fortunate or not, Alexis’ winner yesterday was vitally important for obvious reasons. Back to the final we go, one win away away from claiming a record 12th FA Cup title. It doesn’t matter how you do it in the end, it only matters that the job is done. Arsenal just about scraped through yesterday, but we won’t mind one bit. As for Alexis, he did what he has been doing all season and who knows where we would be without him.

Ramsey vs Burnley

Not the prettiest goal you will ever see, and certainly not the prettiest goal Ramsey has ever scored, but vitally important to Arsenal’s top two hopes. Of all the goals scored and games won in Arsenal’s incredible run since the turn of the year, this one became the most important when Man City shockingly lost to Crystal Palace that weekend. This goal saw Arsenal over the line in a tense affair at Turf Moore and saw Arsenal climb into second for the first time.
