Five pre-contract signings Arsenal must make

A little known fact is that so many as 17 international stars are out of contract this summer and are available to sign on a pre-contract agreement in January. Each one of these players is of the age 22 or older and are therefore free to talk to any club come January. Without gettin carried away, I think this is something Arsenal should really look to exploit. The club could address many needs without spending a penny of its transfer budget and for the first time in a while, a bargain wouldn’t mean lesser quality. Top, top quality is available for free transfer, with many starts refusing to sign new terms with their respective clubs.

This is not to say that Arsenal won’t still need to spend big, but if some of the needs can be addressed without doing so that is always a plus.

 Sami Khedira

I know, we are sick of hearing about Khedira, but if Madrid want to play hardball I can’t think of another way to get under their skins then to sign Khedira to a pre-contract agreement. The player clearly isn’t happy and doesn’t play much, yet Ancelotti claims Madrid want to keep him. Probably just a ploy to get suitors to bid higher amounts of money. Why buy him now if he agrees to sign in the summer for free?

 Giorgio Chiellini

I’ve always rated the Juve skipper and if he is available Arsenal should seriously consider him. The 31 year old is world class and would immediately strengthen our back line. He has ony played on Serie A, and with Juve having won the last three titles, and heading for a fourth, he just might be open to a change in scenery. United and City are also apparently interested so Arsenal’s interest must be swift and firm. If Hummels signs in January and Chiellini in the summer, Arsenal’s back line will be instantly formidable.

 Andre Ayew

The Ghana man has been searching for a move away from Marseille for years now and may finally get his wish this summer. He is certain to not sign an extension is definitely searching pastures anew. He is astonishingly only 24, and would be a cheeky signing. Assuming a minor clear out occurs at Arsenal (which is likely) with Rosicky, Podolski, and possibly Campbell departing (hopefully on loan) Ayew would be the perfect replacement for any of them. Skillful and pacey, he has been one of Marseille’s leading men for a while.

 Fabian Schar

Fantastic talent he is. The 22 year old is a stonewall centre halve, in fact Arsenal have been tracking him for some years already. It just so happens he is available for free this summer and of all players on this list he looks the most likely. Because of his age, Basel will receive a compensation, but it will be a small one and significantly less than any transfer sum would be.

 Eduaro Vargas

Going along with the theme that several players may leave in the summer, Vargas is another who would make a worthy replacement. Podolski and Rosicky out, and Ayew and Vargas in would not be the worst swap ever and the latter two have the advantage of youth (24 and 25). The international teammate of Alexis, Vargas  is doing well for QPR, and has caught the eye of many potential suitors including parent club Napoli. He is unsettled in Naples and may opt to stay in England, but with QPR not guaranteed a place in the top division, he could available to swoop for.
