Five reasons why Arsenal should make a move for Chelsea forward

Transfer rumours are a frustrating thing, and yet us football fans can’t live without them; we love the drama, excitement and debate they bring up when discussing our beloved football team.

I say they’re frustrating due to the fact they’re so repetitive, with the internet age meaning rehashed titles for months on end. For example, we’ve been playing the ‘hokey cokey’ with Real Madrid’s Sami Khedira, Bayer Leverkusen’s Lars Bender, Sporting’s William Carvalho and Southampton’s Morgan Schneiderlin for what feels like an eternity.

It’s boring.

So, I got thinking about a few players I’d like Arsenal to (realistically) sign that haven’t even really been linked with a move to the Emirates, players that would excite us Gooners, players that will hopefully drum up some more topics for us to discuss rather than pretending that Khedira was ever going to come to the Emirates.

I’ve come to the conclusion that Arsene Wenger should definitely make a move for Andre Schurrle.

Straight replacement

All the talk surrounds the fact Arsenal have a ridiculous lack of options at the back but plenty to choose from in the final third. However, with Yaya Sanogo and Serge Gnabry needing loan spells, Lukas Podolski, Joel Campbell and Santi Cazorla all being linked with moves away, we very quickly may well become short up top.

Previously linked

Andre Schurrle, whilst at Bayer Leverkusen, was rumoured to be interesting Arsene Wenger, therefore, a move for the now-Chelsea forward wouldn’t be totally out of left-field.

German contingency

Arsene Wenger appears to be keen on building cores within the squad, with our British players bringing the enthusiasm, excitement and energy to the side, whereas, our German trio of Lukas Podolski, Mesut Ozil and Per Mertesacker bring the experience and ‘know how’, something Schurrle can also bring to the squad.

Cut-price deal

The 24-year-old Chelsea attacker has been linked with a move away from Stamford Bridge with Bundesliga outfit FC Schalke 04, part of any deal that potentially brings Borussia Dortmund’s Marco Reus to Stamford Bridge and even arch rivals Tottenham Hotspur being credited with interest.

Furthermore, Schurrle has only played 319 minutes of Premier League football so far this season, no doubt meaning he’ll be thinking of seeking pastures new.

Style of play

I’m a huge fan of Schurrle’s versatility – he can play upfront, No.10 or on either wing, the German international would also add dynamism and goals to our frontline which would ease the burden on our main man Alexis Sanchez.
