The Morgan Schneiderlin to Arsenal links have begun to surface once more, with the Southampton ace seemingly headed toward the exit door. Arsenal were linked with the player for nearly the entire summer, as the Saints endured a bit of an exodus. After losing the likes of Lovren, Chambers, Lambert, Shaw, and Lallana, it was expected Schneiderlin would the next to depart. Southampton however blocked any move for Schneiderlin, and thus ended all speculation for the time being, but now face another battle to retain his services.

It a losing battle according to Southampton boss Ronald Koeman. Schneiderlin suffered knee ligament damage against Tottenham last weekend which ruled him out for the remainder of the season. Koeman now fears that the player may have played his last match for the club and admits it will be even harder to keep the player this year than it was last year.

“It’s more difficult, I understand because I got the possibility as a player to change team and go to a big team, Barcelona, from Holland,” he said.

“We try to keep him for longer, we do everything, but there is a “stop” where we can’t do more and then it’s all about the decision of the player.”

“I don’t know (if he’s played his last game), or about interest or about bids. We would like to keep everybody but sometimes it’s difficult. There aren’t any serious bids for the player. He is happy but it’s up to him.”

Arsenal and Tottenham are among those said to be on the case. As always, here are five alternatives just in case Arsenal lose out.
