The fact that he's not ready and we need someone ready (i.e. displace Giroud) is a little bit of a downside.

I meant as a back-up. As it stands if Giroud gets injured we'll have Walcott back up top. Janssen shouldn't cost the earth and has time on his side. I don't think getting 1 forward is enough. Could sell Walcott and easily cover this.

If we get rid of another forward, buy Janssen and another striker with the quality to get Giroud benched, I wouldn't mind.

But Janssen on his own is not enough. We'd still look at 30+ games where Giroud leads the attack.

@razörist good summary. Only the two wingers made it (suarez/kuyt), those who scored from the wing. Exactly what wenger usually does too, play the strikers on the wing and go from there. By that standard I could be wrong about Janssen.
