Ok, so if Arsène thinks he is the next Messi or better he should take him even for 200m, after all these years we are finally proactive and people still worry like it is their money. If Wenger is not worried who usually worries about 1 or 2m who cares

Its not 140m Mbappe surrounded by top quality.

Its 140m Mbappe surrounded by a group of upper mid-table players with a 18 point gap to 1st place.

This would be putting a cherry yet to ripen on a pile of dog ****e.

People getting shocked at the price. Partially it is an issue of mistaking value with cost. This is what Wenger talks about when he complains about the obsession with cost. Leicester got Kante for £7 million. Arsenal got Holding for £2 million.

Players can cost not as much as MBappe (e.g. Schweinsteiger, Schneiderlin, Lucas Perez, Mangala, Janssen, Sissoko) but still offer much less value.

Bottom line. If Arsenal get MBappe he goes straight into the first 11, transforms the club in terms of aspiration, fan backing, possibly helps Alexis' contract talks etc, sells a heck of a lot of shirts and is a sponsors dream.

He also commands an enormous sell on fee and probably goes to Real Madrid in 6 or 7 years time.

It's a bit like when everyone complained about how much Pogba was costing Man Utd. Then you look at it and you see - their central midfield has had a lot of problems since Keane, Scholes and Carrick past their peaks, Pogba goes straight into the first 11 and you build your team around him (while they had around £60 million spent on Herrera, Schweinsteiger, Schneiderlin and were still struggling to get a good CM set up, playing the likes of Fellaini there). Then you also realise that with the commercial side of Man Utd - they basically make back the outlay on his transfer fee quite easily because he sells shirts and sells Adidas gear.

Alexis and Özil are top,top quality and in this system lots of other players looked like real quality, so we ll have to believe Arsène like always.

One thing to keep in mind is that Wenger loves younger talent because if the day comes when they move on you can make a tidy profit. It's good business. Of course there's always a risk if an Eduardo type incident occurs, but if Arsenal invest 110m or whatever now and Mbappe comes even close to reaching his potential, he could be sold for an astronomical fee down the road. Of course I'm sure Arsène would like to sign him and make him a Gunner for life, but it's good to have your bases covered when you're spending big money. You're probably never going to recoup your money for Lacazette or Aubemeyang, even though the fee would be much lower. It's a calculated risk.

Dont feel theres a chance in hell we are biding these sums + signing two monster contracts. Seems very quiet & just 208 days til Alexis / Özil can sign pre agreements.

A front line of Sanchez, Mbappe and Özil sells enough shirts and merchandise to pay for the transfer fee and the salaries over the course of the contracts. Lately Arsenal's merchandizing has been flat. If those guys are playing together, it will lasso the moon. And even if Sanchez and Özil don't sign, you've at least got this season to go for a title and can replace them next summer when big players will want to play for Arsenal.

Don't think we make anything from shirt sales.

Think Madrid and maybe United (possibly Barcelona) are the few that take the cut.

IIRC we only start making some money over a set percentage. Will try to find the link for it.

Yeah but when is the current Puma deal finished? That's when the big bucks come in surely?

In two seasons time Arsenal will be making a tonne of money from their new kit deal. not as much as Man Utd but plenty more than the £30 million they got from Puma in 2014.

If Arsenal could keep Alexis and get MBappe, I wouldn't be surprised to see Nike come in big when the new kit deal comes up.

Shades of Thierry

18 years old, if we get him we're arguably sorted for our striker position for the next 5+ years.

That Mbappe & Özil connection is going to be lethal.
