The Abdelhak Nouri appreciation thread

Abdelhak Nouri is my favorite young talent in the world. Last Saturday he collapsed due to a heart attack/rythem disorder during a pre-season match between Ajax and Bremen. Today the news broke that sadly he has permanent brain damage, which means his career is over, and that may be the least of the damage.

Appie Nouri is extra special to me because of our similar background. We both have Moroccan roots, both are Muslim. There is a lot of controversy surrounding that combination in the Netherlands but this kid was loved by everybody because of the kind, respectful and loving human being he was. He made me, and a lot of young people like me so proud. So so proud. I remember when he made his first team debut last season, he asked Schone, Ajax's free kick specialist if he could take a free kick. I was watching with my dad and told him he was going to score.. and he did.. and the stadium exploded with with happiness. I don't think there has been a youth player ever as popular as him without even playing for the first team...

Anyway I think most of you guys don't know him but I can't let this go without trying to make some people see his talent so I will post some clips in here. Feel free to contribute or whatever guys.

Absolute tragedy.

It's not just his footballing career which has been ruined here, this has the potential of radically altering the way he lives his life.

@razörist Reports have been a little ambiguous, is he in a vegetable like state? Think the official report said something like crucial parts of his brain have lost their ability to function.

Yeah, it looks like more than just football. Could be about walking, talking eating, could be anything. I honestly feel sick.

Only 20 as well. So sad.
He had this interview around his debut a couple months back that is killing me now. He said:

"Playing for Ajax..that hope doesn't change for me. I'm here for 11 years now, and it should be normal for me to play here but it isn't. I still wonder about it... I play for Ajax..I am also proud. How young kids would give everything to play there.. its exactly the same for me, I still have that feeling. I play for Ajax, I'm proud of that, with my head held high I can say that. I've worked hard to get here..but to play for your city, your club..to improve there..its amazing. I'm waiting to be a permanent part of the first team... I think the waiting will be rewarded..with something special. I will stay patient for that.. I've been patient already for 11 years..the same mentality is still here. I'm enjoying it, I just want to play football..on the highest level, I want to make the people enjoy watching me. I'll do everything I can for that. If it doesn't work out, it doesn't. But I will do everything in my power, thats the most important."

Sad stuff, we can see your clearly touched by this.
I am..I've been watching this kid since forever. Youth matches and tournaments were packed with fans because of him, at one point his team was more fun to watch than the 1st team ffs.

There's now an article with his brother, saying the doctors are sure that when he wakes up, he won't be able to think, talk, eat, walk, even recognize somebody.

Makes me so sad what has happened.. His brother has told the media today that he might not even be able to recognize people anymore..

It's such a tragedy. It's all I could think about today.. I just pray he can have a decent life after this.

I'm cut up about this. I can't remember a previous instance where someone as talented as had their career cut short like this. Who knows, but his talent could absolutely have lifted him to Verratti or even Xavi levels. The small, intelligent, deep-lying playmaker is one of my favourite archetypes...if you love football, you love Appie.

Really awful. Poor lad. I hadn't heard anything about it until I saw the post on instagram earlier. I was not very familiar with him having focused mostly on Dolberg and Kluivert at Ajax but regardless this is really so tragic. Hearing your story about what he means to you and others makes it even more so. Very sorry for everyone he is dear to.
