Carvalho is perfect, him and a Santi replace ment and we will be competing.

We need a mobile midfielder to play next to Xhaka, who can get into offensive positions as Ramsey does, especially in the 3-4-3 formation. Granted, the only time I've seen Carvalho play was at Euro 2016, but my god he looked slow. He's literally Xhaka with better defending but significantly worse at everything else.

Would be such an Arsenal moment if our much needed midfield signing ends up on the bench because he can't partner Xhaka while Elneny plays.

Carvalho would be good next to Xhaka in 4231 I reckon.

True, but I think it would be more of a risk than getting somebody in the mould of Goretzka or Seri. Still, it could work well, especially if Seo is a more offensive LB (we already know Bellerin is) to make up for having two sitting CDMs.

He would be good next to Xhaka if we adapt a deep block defence. Five man back and four men with forward freedom. Don't see us doing that though.

Has anyone actually watched him? Seen his supposed highlights on YouTube and doesn't look anything special, just a brute.

Wenger has stated we'd start with the 3 at the back but there was mention that we will have both practiced for certain games I think... I'd love it if we operated like this. Have a few versatile players to play both formations and one or two beasts for each formation.

A brute with an eye for a pass, the passing range of Xhaka, excellent aerial ability, strong and calm on the ball, he is so difficult to dribble past (averages less than one per game), he also averages more take ons than someone like Kante while being dispossessed less.

All in all, people make out like he is physically similar to Xhaka. Just because you don't see him running around like Kante doesn't mean he is slow. He only sprints when he has to and usually his positioning is so good that he doesn't need to make constant recovery runs. If you watch any compilation of him you will see him drive through midfield taking players on and they are nowhere near catching him, or are all of these players slower than Xhaka?

His main weakness his finishing and shooting, not his physical attributes as people are led to believe. I mean ffs he is probably faster than Pogba and Coquelin. Coquelin bounced off Hazard where as Hazard wouldn't even be able to get around Carvalho.

Xhaka - Carvalho would dominate possession and provide a solid Base for 4 attackers in front of them. It would also add considerable protection to our defence and allow us to play various formations.

SOLD. How old is he? seems like we've been linked to him for 15 years so its hard to have a decent guess lol.

Nothing Wrong With Me
tbh, with Wenger looking to sell Elneny, another DM will be required, preferably someone who is ahead of Coq. Carvalho fits the bill. Would be good to see some reliable links though. I have seen Express, Sun, Metro and some Portuguese links but that's all.

Why so serieuse?
I'd be fine with Carvalho, as long as our contract offer stipulates that he shaves his moustache off. I'd recommend buying him just to save the world from being subjected to his facial turf.

Hmm idk. I have little faith in players from the Liga Nos. A guy his age, featured so many times in the national team yet still there's never any serious interest. Feels like overpaying for a meh player, happens a lot with clubs from Portugal.

Whether or not you think there are better CMs out there for us (I do), you can't deny Carvalho-Xhaka would provide a very solid wall in front of defence with pretty great passing to go with it.

—————--Cech
Bellerin-Mustafi-Kos-Kolasinac
———Carvalho-Xhaka
Lemar —— Özil —— Alexis
———— Lacazette

But I don't think it'd work so well in a 3-4-3, meaning switching back to 4-2-3-1. But in this scenario both Alexis and Lemar feel most at home on the left of the attack, so would they be able to play on both wings interchanging with each other? Or would a specialist right-winger like Mahrez be better?
