I absolutely love VAR on red cards (even though the ref got this one wrong). Totally prevents the cheats from unfairly, massively changing a game -- wish the PL would use it.

MLS is doing fantastic with VAR in general. The reviews of goals is so nice and takes no time. There was a situation in the last Whitecaps game that was similar to when Lacazette's goal vs Stoke got ruled off for offside, but they reviewed it within 30 seconds and the goal stood. No legitimate reason for all leagues not to be doing the same at this point.

Saw the highlights of the ATL last games at the new stadium, pretty awesome. MLS is really coming a long way....Hopefully, my long suffering DCU will have their own stadium next year too.

Miazga was signed from an MLS team, right?

Who are the bigger prospects in the league, potentially capable of a move to the PL/other top leagues?

Miazga is a product of the New York Red Bulls academy. Joevin Jones of Seattle has already signed to move to Darmstadt in January.

One guy I figure will be snatched up before too long is Atlanta United's Miguel Almiron, an attacking midfielder and Paraguay international with 10 caps. Highly-skilled and he's only 23. He was actually linked to Arsenal last summer when he was playing for Lanus in Argentina. Here's a bit that was in the Sun:

https://www.thesun.co.uk/sport/foot...g-deals-for-shkodran-mustafi-and-lucas-perez/

Jack Harrison, a winger for New York City FC, is actually from Stoke-on-Trent and spent seven years in the Manchester United Academy before moving to the U.S. at age 14. He's a great dribbler, skilled with lots of pace, and has scored 9 goals with 6 assists so far this year. His presence opens things up for David Villa. He won't turn 21 until November.

Some other young guys to look for might be Kellyn Acosta, a box-to-box midfielder for FC Dallas and the USMNT: Cyle Larin, a Canadian striker of Orlando SC; Alberth Elis, a Honduran winger for the Houston Dynamo; Diego Fagundez, a Uruguayan-born product of the New England Revolution Academy who at age 22 has been a regular in the senior team for four years; Cristian Roldan, a 22-year-old defensive midfielder for Seattle; Brandon Vincent, a left back who just started his professional career last year after four seasons at Stanford; Albert Rusnak, a 23-year-old Slovak midfielder who played in the Manchester City youth system; and Hector Villalba, Almiron's teammate at Atlanta, a high-pressure Argentine winger who has 11 goals and 9 assists so far this year.

Almiron and Villalba's teammate, Josef Martinez, played three seasons at Torino and at age 23 the Venezuelan striker could find himself back in Europe as well.

And I don't want to forget the goalkeepers, so I'll mention Andre Blake of the Philadelphia Union. Fantastic talent and only 26. I've seen the guy just play out of his mind for Jamaica. Recently he's been linked to Brighton & Hove Albion and Crystal Palace.

And I'm sure there are many others who are getting a good look. Contrary to the stereotype, MLS has a lot of great young talent.

Might be some names here to keep an eye on as well. Dortmund found Pulisic playing for the Pennsylvania Classics club in the U.S. Soccer Development Academy and for the U.S. U-17 team (which he captained in the 2015 World Cup). Maybe there's a star or two to come out of this bunch, which will compete in this year's U-17 WC in India this fall. Some are playing in Europe already.

U.S. 2017 FIFA U-17 World Cup Roster by Position:

GOALKEEPERS (3): Alex Budnik (Sockers FC; Arlington Heights, Ill.), Carlos Joaquim Dos Santos (S.L. Benfica; Philadelphia, Penn.), Justin Garces (Atlanta United FC; Miami, Fla.)

DEFENDERS (6): Sergiño Dest (Ajax; Almere-stad, Netherlands), Christopher Gloster (New York Red Bulls; Montclair, N.J.), Jaylin Lindsey (Sporting Kansas City; Charlotte, N.C.), James Sands (New York City FC; Rye, N.Y.), Tyler Shaver (New York City FC; Greenwich, Conn.), Akil Watts (Portland Timbers, Fort Wayne, Ind.)

MIDFIELDERS (6): George Acosta (North Carolina FC; Hollywood, Fla.), Taylor Booth (Real Salt Lake; Eden, Utah), Christopher Durkin (D.C. United; Glen Allen, Va.), Blaine Ferri (Solar Soccer Club; Southlake, Texas), Chris Goslin (Atlanta United FC; Locust Grove, Ga.), Indiana Vassilev (Unattached; Savannah, Ga.)

FORWARDS (6): Ayo Akinola (Toronto FC; Brampton Ont.), Andrew Carleton (Atlanta United FC; Powder Springs, Ga.), Jacobo Reyes (C.F. Monterrey; Houston, Texas), Bryan Reynolds (FC Dallas; Little Elm, Texas), Joshua Sargent (St. Louis Scott Gallagher Missouri; O'Fallon, Mo.), Tim Weah (Paris Saint-Germain F.C., Rosedale, N.Y.)

Drove by the new DC United/ Audi field stadium yesterday in Buzzard Point yesterday, the construction is progressing well. Half of the stadium is already up. It will be exciting when it opens. It is less than 1000 yards from the National Stadium and there is so much happening now in that area.

Atlanta, down 1-0 and reduced to 10 men, has just scored twice in a short span (the second via an incredible pass on the counter) to take a 2-1 lead against Minnesota.

And prior to the red, this happened:

Blowouts yesterday for the first day of the playoffs. First NYRB smash Chicago 0-4 away, and then the Whitecaps go one better and do San Jose 5-0 at home. Caps now play Seattle in the first home and home series, Cascadia showdown!

Things seem closer today, Columbus has just beat Atlanta in pks, and its 0-0 near the 40th minute between Houston and KC.

Tough result for Atlanta, though probably expected given the city’s history with playoff games — at least we’re used to it!
