According to Aksam, Besiktas captain Oguzhan Ozyakup’s hasn’t extended his contract with the Turkish champions because of reported interest from his former club Arsenal.

Ozyakup has previously been linked with a move to to the Premier League, and along with Arsenal fellow London clubs West Ham United and Tottenham Hotspur have been showing an interest.

Aksam say Ozyakup wants to leave the club on good terms, after being a key player in their back to back title wins. He’s ‘seriously considering’ a potential return to Arsenal, and the whole transfer situation is overtaking his thoughts.

I've heard that Beşiktaş have agreed terms with the player. The problem lies in the terms of his current contract. The terms are that we get 30% of the transfer fee Beşiktaş would stand to receive if they were to sell the player. The problem from their perspective is our unwillingness to let go of that clause, that's what's holding up the signing of the new contract.

He's improved a lot since he left and done very well for himself, but he's the very last player we need right now. Makes no sense at all. He should stay there or seek a move to a club like Roma for example.

Beşiktaş have agreed for the terms with Oğuzhan but the problem is with Arsenal. There is an option in his contract that says when he is sold, %30 of the fee will be given to Arsenal. The Beşiktaş Board is trying to remove it from the contract and the members still haven’t agreed with Arsenal. He’ll renew his contract that’s for sure. He has already said that he has agreed for 5 years. Just waiting Beşiktaş to agree with Arsenal.

You are saying that Oky would like to renew his contract with Besiktas, but Arsenal stand in the way and not that he would like to see out his contract to get a move as this article states?

Yep at 25 would he like to be on the periphery for us as a back up?

Should’ve created a thread for him...

Also, WhoScored says he’s played mostly as a defensive midfielder this season but that he’s weak at tackling and defensive contribution. o_O

Yeah I don't see why he would want the move or why we would want it. He's the captain at Besiktas, maybe he could be a regular at a bigger club but not at Arsenal.

Damned if you do,, damned if you don't.
I felt like @BobP, that link is pretty thin on the ground, but apparently appears to be snowballing now with other agencies picking up on it.

Wouldn't be surprised if we got him. I think he'd count towards HG quota too (think he played long enough in England between the ages of 16 and 21 before leaving). Didn't realize he was on the 2008-2009 FA Youth Cup squad with Super Jack.

I remember when he left that many within the club were mad because they had a lot of high hopes for him. Didn't want to stay around because he was afraid he wouldn't get the game time at the first team level.

Yeah I read that too and thought he'd be like another Xhaka for us. His hatred of Judas is admirable though in fairness.

Wilshere-level talent is certainly not true. Özyakup is probably better than Elneny but not of the quality we require to move forward.

I see him being brought in if Wilshere doesn't sign.

Cheap, knows the club, and will most likely not complain to much about sitting on the bench
