I'm surprised this poll is as close as it is. There's no way Wenger could have continued. It was the right decision, and still will be regardless of who our next manager is or what they achieve.

Wenger should have continued and should have played a part in pulling a successor. When everything was agreed upon, then he should have stepped down. It is ridiculous that he was sacked or allowed to walk or whatever at a time where there were no obvious candidates to replace him.

Pardon the double posting, but Arteta's chances of making it here long-term are theoretically non-existent. Even if he improves us for a season or two, his lack of experience will almost certainly be exposed afterwards. Which will leave us having in an even more difficult transition afterwards, us probably being considered an established mid-table club by then. I wanted a long-term appointment.

Dont get this logic. We got rid of him because he wasclearly underperforming so why would/should we allow him to pick his successor? So he can ruin his legacy a little more by appointing someone who also has no clue and then riding off into the Sunset?

And that's all it is at the end of the day mate, Theory. You're speculating massively there. Nobody knows how good he is or isn't.

Yep, nobody does. Which means that he might be absolutely abysmal. Boards should think "economically," "scientifically," "rationally." And there is no better guess than Arteta's expected contribution being meh.

As for Wenger "picking" his successor, that's not exactly what I meant. He should have been a part in the discussions is all I'm saying and he could have helped in convincing the other manager. Just maybe.

Arteta is far from ideal but above all else we needed change and have done for a while.

I think that sums up the situation correctly, if AW had stayed on for another year the protests would have become even more vocal and widespread. He has had several seasons of decline in the league and had seemingly run out of ideas on how to fix it.

Arteta may or may not be the answer, but at least it is a step on the road to the future. He would have been very few peoples first choice, but I for one am looking forward to seeing a fresh approach from a new manager.

This club is now a joke.

Kroenke, sporting model, culture.
Arsenal is dead as a force.
Arteta as manager confirms it even further.

We are simply another lovely tourist attraction in and around London.

I personally wanted Wenger to leave because I was just hoping there was the slightest chance he was pulling us back with his ideals and stubborness as well as his power at the club.

The club has sent a massive message out to the fan base with these links and NO MATTER what any idiot deluded fans says, appointing Arteta would seriously confirm that ambition-wise we are nowhere near being a top club. It is very depressing but it looks like thats going to be our future. Only big boys can admit that.

However, even if I knew we were going to appoint Arteta previously... I'd still opt for it over keeping Wenger. He became tactically frail, stubborn and just lost in general. He was always ahead of the game and thats what made him amazing... but for the past decade the game has been passing him by more and more with every season. Even someone as inexperienced as Arteta will surely be more pro-active tactically and thats the very small silver lining in all of this mess.

Gazidis the catalyst of change considers extending the Arsenal Tour to include Wenger's Chateaux in France with a personal Arsène guided vineyard Tour . Lovely stuff.

Agree with most of the people here we are taking a massive risk with Arteta. Hey ! it might work like Zidane or Gaurdiola but we are not in position to take the risk for one we do not have the team like Real and Barca and the EPL has more contenders to win the league that Spain.

And if the Santi as number 2 rumors are true than the socialist way of running the club will continue under Wenger.

Yep. It was Anzac who was the original WOB.

IIRC

I truly thought about what @Anzac's reaction was when he woke up to the news of Wenger going. As you said he was the OG, triple OG, WOB. He saw the signs and told us all about it, repeatedly  , looooooong before we all saw the light.

Shame that he was run off to an extent. IIRC he lost his elite member status and was demoted back to a regular forum member for banging the WOB drum (truth?) too much and getting into it with the mod who shall remain nameless as he tried to spread the gospel to us blind masses of AKB A-Mers.

From Anzac vs a board full of AKB believers to @Makingtrax and the WOB. Crazy how much A-M has changed over the last 8 years or so.

Wenger isn’t coming back. Totally pointless thread. Lock it

It’s designed for one last throw of the dice as a reaction to Merci Arsène.

So I say, bollocks to this thread and bollocks to voting

The bitterness of the ex-AKBs prolongs our existence. Like the greatest advertising slogan for a funeral directors would say ‘If you don’t die, we can’t live!’
What existence? You don’t get it bro.

AKBs and WOBs have all died.

And you don’t air grievances at funerals. Everybody knows that.
