Forza Milan

Swiss international defender Stephan Lichtsteiner is joining us from Juventus.

He signs as a free agent from the Serie A club, where he won the title in each of his seven seasons.

A hugely-experienced right-sided defender, Stephan made over 250 appearances for Juventus and is the fourth-most capped player in Switzerland history with 99 appearances for his country. He has also been the Swiss captain since 2016.

Stephan, who will wear the No 12 shirt and have his surname on his shirt, has spoken to Arsenal Media about his move - and you can watch the interview below.

Head coach Unai Emery said: “Stephan brings huge experience and leadership to our squad. He’s a player with great quality with a very positive and determined attitude. Stephan will improve us on and off the pitch.”

Stephan, 34, started his senior career in 2001 with Swiss club Grasshopper Zurich, where he won the league title in 2003. He played in France with Lille for three years before moving to Lazio in Italy in 2008, where he won the Coppa Italia and the Supercoppa Italiana before moving to Juventus in 2011.

The deal is subject to the completion of regulatory processes.

OTT'ing aside. It's a good bet. 1+1 contract guarantees that we won't have to loan him out to 5 different clubs before releasing him from his contract.

Very smart signing.

Free, has character in spades and is still more than good enough to keep Bellerin on his toes.

Backup RB done. 2 top CBs and a GK next.

Blimey.
Midfielder too let's hope Emery don't ignore quality depth like Wenger

This makes sense on many different levels. Bellerin is an excellent fullback, but Lichtsteiner can hopefully be both a competitor and a more experienced sidekick.

Mentalitywise we need more big characters in this squad, and I think Lichtsteiner can contribute to that.

We will see if he can hack it in the Premier League, but it is a signing that seems very sensible.

Midfielder would be nice but given our budget I think we should focus on sorting out the defence and GK. Thats the Achilles heel of this team.

If there’s enough in the tank for a top CM as well then fantastic but priority has to be making sure that Mustafi, Cech and and Koscielny never start for this club again. Particularly with Maitland-Niles coming through.

Will be interesting to see how Emery intends to set up our midfield.

Reinventing VAR 😡
WTF? Juve fans said he improved his crossing last season, so we got another RB with dodgy crossing.
I thought he was better in that department, although even if he's sh*t, he still can't be worse than Bellerin at it.
