Thought he did fine.

Monreal or the wide dude probably stick out a leg in that position as well. Not many players win in a face off with Wilf in the box.

At LB Xhaka is a huge asset playing it out with the two midfielders infront of him, has a nice cross & generally very disciplined. I would not mind seeing him play it again with a LM in front rather than a striker.

TBH, I was fuming at the time but I can't really blame him for getting done by a 1v1 specialist like Zaha. He should never have been put in that position.
Did we not have a Xhaka thread? Granited a new contract or some **** like that???

Ughh... now my thread is going to have a lot of positive Xhaka comments. This is supposed to be a hate Xhaka, burn him at the stake thread.

You're kidding me right? A left back's first job is to defend, and Xhaka struggles to do that even with the protection he gets in midfield. Being able to pass or cross at the expense of being able to run and tackle is a hefty net loss.

It's only under circumstances as desparate as our full back injury crisis he should ever be considered to play there.

Just on today thought he was fine. Lead our defenders with 4 tackles, 2 interceptions, 2 clearances & won most battles.

Held down the left side alot better than I expected. Arguable better than Lichtsteiner on the left or the wide dude. Monreal of course #1 by a distance though.

I agree. It was a dive. It should have been punished and with VAR it would have. But it would have been a different game with VAR.
But Xhaka shouldn’t be isolated one on one with a player like Zaha. Not one on one in a dangerous wide area like that. If fact, no one should.

Done fine at LB when nobody ever even considered the possibility of him playing there. Clearly much more versatile than many acknowledge, but obviously can only be judged on how he plays at CM.

Not a big Xhaka fan but I think he's doing a great job for the team out at left back. Goal was insane too.

Can't be too harsh on him for the penalty. Easy to say he got it all wrong in hindsight, but when you're faced with someone as tricky as Zaha and you're already in an uncomfortable position, the odds are stacked against you.

Did well but we need our full backs to be overlapping which he didn't, I'm sure he was worried about his pace on the counter but it cost us going forward today. Get him back in midfield for the pool game, should help Özil as well, Xhaka isn't the perfect player but he is very good at playing the midfield splitting passes to find Özil in space.

Monreal is good but you look at the impact that someone like Robertson & Mendy have had with their pace/energy and it makes you think that we need someone like Tierney.

He was lucky he didn't get booked for the challenge. Would have missed the Liverpool game in that case

I don't really blame Xhaka for the penalty either.

It was a dive firstly and I agree with the consensus that Zaha is a tricky winger to keep track of, especially in a non preferred position.
