This is the 'first half table' so far:

That's a very sad sight. How did we do last season for comparison?

Then we've got a 33 year old left-back who shouldn't be relied on anymore with a fridge as his understudy.

I think it's the above as well as the lack of natural wingers. Shouldn't be too difficult to address in a transfer window so I'm not stressed.

we don't have enough technical players to impose our philosophy on teams that are fit and defending well.

for example, mustafi can't play a forward pass reliably. bellerin is very average in the buildup phase and often hides behind his marker. kolasinac also isn't a reliable passer. xhaka usually can't dribble (although admittedly he showed something new yesterday). aubameyang's technique is just average (he's a finisher playing out wide). mkhitarian blows extremely hot and cold, as does lacazette to a lesser extent.

collectively, that's just too much technical deficiency to overcome when the opponent is fit and organized. we need better players, or we need to change up the first half tactics to rely on other sources of advantage.

As many guys have said, opposing teams compress the space energetically during the start. They close down Özil and Xhaka, so subsequently there is no creativity left.

Mustafi is probably the best passer from the back.

Clive once again absolutely hits the nail on the head. Think this answers of lot of our problems

The reason why we are over-reliant on fullbacks/wingbacks right now -
