Let's all laugh at Man Utd: Amrabad

To be honest, Solskjaer is the first manager you have appointed after Ferguson that understands what the club is about. I cannot believe you hired Moyes, LvG and Mourinho. The latter especially, totally against everything the club stands for.

Fascinating commentary by Oliver Holt in the Daily Mail. Here's a snippet:

The Glazer family and their patsy, Ed Woodward, have thrown so much away so quickly and so carelessly at a club that dominated English football for so long that it beggars belief. The inventory of everything they have torched since Ferguson retired includes stability, success, grace, class, dignity and Juan Mata.

The inventory of everything they have gained includes a boat-load of mediocrity, an official global lubricant partner, a reputation for wages largesse that measures 9.5 on the Peter Ridsdale Scale and an exorbitantly rewarded non-playing Chilean who only seems interested in his dogs, which is apt because that's exactly where his career went the moment he arrived at Old Trafford. In that context, the self-immolating reign of Jose Mourinho at Old Trafford was a symptom of United's ills, not the cause.

Mourinho was on the down-slope of his career before Woodward appointed him, a man consumed by bitterness and resentments, a man who showed every sign of having fallen out of love with the game and the men who played it, a man whose playing style was outmoded and dour - but when Woodward, United's executive vice-chairman, chose Mourinho, he just saw a name.

He likes names. Big names sell things. They make money. They move merchandise. They sell tickets. Glory? Please. Don't be so naive. It's the profits, stupid. At United, they have taken the Glory Game and turned it into the Glazer Game. Only one currency matters and it's not trophies.

They are back indeed, but they have always had the quality to pick it up.

Its going to be an interesting second half to the season, only Liverpool and City are in the clear at the moment.

Top 4 is suddenly between three teams now. Solskjær was the perfect temp, only the fact that he´s the exact opposite of Mou has done wonders for them. Pogba starting to look like his old self means they suddenly have an absolute WC player in midfield. Martial and Rashford looking much better already. If he can get Alexis and Lukaku going, and get the defence to not feck it up too much, they have plenty of quality in attack to win games.

Sure, he got the easiest start possible, but if they win a few games in a row now they´re well in the fight for top 4. Sp**s away will be interesting.

Top 4 is too much to catch up on but it’s a big positive to get the players in the right frame and style for next season, whether it be Solskjær in charge, Poch, Zizou or whoever. Still quite a few games left but it’s a big ask.

I hope you´re right, but I think its going to be very close.

It does put the previous appointments in perspective though...what were they thinking. Two defensive hoofer type managers, and LvG...

They really overcomplicated management, not saying Solskjær is anything special but he’s kept things simple rather than imposing his own philosophies like previous managers.

van Gaal was a good choice in my opinion. Maybe not as the man to make them completely competetive again after the Moyes disaster, but he's a great coach. If they had appointed him right after Ferguson for a 2 year transition period to get that team into the modern post SAF era and after that went with another guy, they would be in a different place, I think. van Gaal is still seen as the guy who built the foundations for Heynckes success at Bayern.

Bayern have done quite good in this sort of transition and what they did should be looked at. After a long Hitzfeld tenure and Magath, they brought in Klinsmann who with his out of the box almost esoteric approach tore everything old down, then they got van Gaal who thanks to Klinsmann had a rather blank space and with his detail oriented systemic approach built the basis for Heynckes success, and both of that was the basis for the Guardiola years. They only ****ed up after him.

I think United can do it, but the problem they have is that they have to pass both Arsenal and Chelsea (or Sp**s, if they bottle it, as I hope they do). That means both teams have to drop some points. But United has definitely crawled back in it.

This is the first time in quite awhile that the United players are playing with joy. They're really fun to watch again. Even last season when they were playing well it never seemed as though the players were having fun. It was like there was a gloomy pall over the club. Now the players look as though they've been set free.

I'm happy for Ole. He's always seemed like a genuinely nice guy. I think his infectious cheery personality may have been exactly what was needed right now.
