Shambolic if Arsenal fail to get a DoF in time after letting Mislintat walk after a power struggle, Edu rejecting us, then targeting Emery's old pal who's rather going back into his well made bed in Sevilla after getting mobbed by Roma fans. Seems our Catalan pimp is just as ineffective as baldie Gazidis.

It'll be interesting to see how this plays out. There's a great number of interesting choices still out there, hopefully the club can get one in for the next window.

Hopefully we get someone in sooner rather than later, there are a lot of real opportunities this summer to be had.

That and selling Mustafi is going to take someone really special.

Makes sense. Went to a bigger club & kind of flopped.

If Roma saw him as a talent clubs would have to buy him out midseason you would expect... rather than just able to walk with Romas blessing.

Lots of exciting options out there. just hope we dont over promote internally to save money.

We should now pray that Juventus knock out Ajax in the next round to get some news about Overmars. I would be still happy if we manage to hire Overmars.

It's a lot of money. On the other hand, I don't think we can discount the attraction of going home. Sevilla wasn't just a stop along the road for Monchi as with Emery or most of the players who wore the shirt. He was born an hour's drive away and grew up from Sevilla's youth teams to the senior team through all those years as sporting director. There will, of course, be a level of comfort and he must weigh that against the money and challenge of Arsenal. Yes, it would be a major U-turn if things were as far along as people such as John Cross have been reporting. But he probably didn't expect this opportunity at this time.

Hopefully he'll decide in Arsenal's favor, but if not they will find somebody else. Maybe Overmars can be convinced. Maybe somebody else. Luis Campos has recently been linked to becoming sporting director at Chelsea. Maybe Arsenal could swoop in and snatch him up. The coming days and weeks should be quite interesting.

I don't want us to be hijacking someone heading for another club - I want a proper Arsenal man, as I think we have enough career-minded, and money minded, men in charge, from the owner downwards

And where would we get such a man? A guy who has rarely worked at other "big" clubs won't have enough experience. A guy with enough experience will have worked at plenty other clubs and will have (had) offers from other big clubs.

This position is extremely important and Arsenal need an absolute specialist. Luis Campos is one of the best DoFs around who can do all sorts of transfers.

Btw. Mislintat was a real Dortmund man before he left for Arsenal.
Monchi was a real Sevilla man before he left for Roma, then flirted with Arsenal only to apparently return to Sevilla. Don't think anyone of these could be labelled a true Arsenal man if still here.

I don't know if you were in favour of Monchi, but that would have been very much a money minded man in charge. Don't see what would qualify Monchi as an Arsenal man, but Cam?os - or most any DoF out there - not.

Bringing someone up through the ranks is extremely risky, as the DoF has so many tasks and I wouldn't know if Arsenal had someone who might have it in him. So we have to go out and get someone from another club.

You can very much spend time at other clubs, have offers or be on your way to another club, before deciding to join Arsenal - and then become a proper Arsenal man. Wenger managed other clubs before Arsenal with success, during his time in Japan he was also approached by Bayern. So would he have qualified as a proper Arsenal man for you before he came?

@Slartibartfast is right. Should highjack Chelsea going after Campos and bring in a Leipzig/Salzburg Analyst /scout to be his sidekick.

Speaking of Leipzig, what would you think of Ralf Rangnick as a candidate?

Unless he and Chelsea had an agreement, I wouldn't see anything wrong. Who would you consider an Arsenal man? Would it have to be somebody like Overmars? And I would say that whoever Arsenal hires, being "money-minded" would have to be a prerequisite under a self-sustaining model.

Great football mind, but too stubborn and too used to being the big man at a club himself. Don't think him working under Sanllehi would work out. He's also more of a reformer, someone who loves the task of restructuring and bringing back/up whole clubs, giving them a complete identity. He's also very eccentric and idiosyncratic, easily clashes with people. He's a great mind, but only lasted that long at RB because he had free hand. I also think he works better in smaller environments, e.g. Hoffenheim and then early Red Bull, with big Schalke being one of his weaker stints.

I have heard some rumours circulating: Apparently his parents are pretty old and a bit ill and he considers returning home to the Stuttgart region. He's acquainted on a personal level with VfB's president and his relationship with the RB football boss is said to be not the best anymore. So...could be that Rangnick returns to Stuttgart, although he has long said he would never consider this after a dirty divorce back then.

With all that I don't think he's interested in being DoF but second fiddle at a world club, and he's even more eccentric and the like than Klopp. Don't think it would be a fit.

Would be kind of exciting to see him go back to Stuttgart and see what he can do. Are any of the people he clashed with before still at the club? Seems like that was quite a few years ago. If he's on good terms with the current president, maybe it can happen.
