The Metro article makes it sound like we are offering him Edu's potential job. Can anyone check the original Spanish article? @Rex Banner

My Spanish is a little rusty, but it really doesn't seem any more clear than reports in the English fish wrappers. It says he's been contacted by Arsenal and Monaco. Because of that, it claims, he's decided he'd like to return to Europe (he's been working for the company that owns Granada CF and the club in China where Jordi Cruyff coaches). Then it mentions that Arsenal fired Sven Mislintat (despedir, in the context of a job, means to fire or dismiss) and Monchi said no. They, like the Metro, The Sun and others don't seem to understand that we're talking about two different jobs.

So I'd say there's really nothing to see here. I guess we'll see.

First couple of paragraphs give background, basically gone to work for a holding company in China after helping Monaco get to the CL finals in 2017.

However he’s now received calls from Monaco and Arsenal to become a technical director after we’ve struck out with Monchi and from Monaco because they miss him.

Then it says irregardless of whether he signs with either he’s now set on returning to Europe because he’s desired by clubs with big money available.

On the one hand he's helped bring in a lot of good players for us over the year, on the other hand he was probably involved in scouting Mustafi so his net contributions to the club are in negative as it stands.

Him scouting Mustafi (and Gabriel) means nothing, he is just a scout. We have no idea what his recommendations are and if those recommendations were ignored in favour of StatDNA.

This was the same under Wenger. It suited the narrative to say that Wenger was responsible for Mustafi, Elneny, Perez, Kola, etc. But the reality was nobody had any idea what the real driving force was with recruitment . . scouts, Law, Gazidis, StatDNA ?

Hopefully with a technical director it's one person who takes the responsibility for transfers and therefore knows they need to do the right job or their head will be on the line. Football has become very complicated now with transfers and signing/scouting players so the old model we had was outdated (United also having the same issues). You need someone of a footballing understanding in charge of calling the shots. Sp**s, City and Liverpool have that and thats why they're ahead of the old boys United, Chelsea and Arsenal.

Yes Kroenke is a tightass piece of **** but Levy hasn't actually invested much money into transfers either, he just runs the club better than Kroenke. If Edu does his job well we can be less wasteful and more intelligent in the transfer market. (Use his links to sign more talented players as well as sell players we dont want for good fees, and also stop with this insanely stupid contract situation we keep finding ourselves in with out best players).

Wenger always had the last word.

In Premiership football who selects the match day squad and starting XI? Is it solely the manager (in consultation with his back room staff)?

Wenger had a whole summer back then to find better than Mustafi and Perez.
Even if those signings were forced on him, he couldn't find any better so he has to take a part of the blame too.

You can't say that all our good signings were thanks to Wenger and all the bad ones were because of Gazidis.

Tbf he did want Manolas who had some form of clause or another that I can't recall. As usual the club ****ed it up and we were desperate by the end of the window. Of course how much of the **** ups in our player dealings are down to Wenger or **** Law and Gazidis or a combination of all parties involved will never be known unless one of them decides to release tell all book.
