Thing is if you are the sheik about to buy Newcastle you wouldnt care for ffp.

Just go splurge a pile of cash on transfers get a 12 month ban but by then its to late as you have already spent your 300 million .
They will still get to keep the players bought in.

Its open to abuse quite easily and kroenke hasnt even looked to have bent the rules over it.

We can only pick 1? Everton will soon be competing with us at the very least. Wolves maybe, probably a bit off tho. Newcastle in a couple of seasons most likely. Leicester under Rodgers could get very interesting. One thing is for sure competing for top 4 is absolutely out of the question next season.

We are all disappointed, deflated and there is a lot of negativity at the moment but to say 'competing for top 4 is absolutely out of the question next season' is over the top to me, as is talk about getting overtaken. We were 1 point from Sp**s in 4th this season, 2 points behind Chelsea in 3rd and reached a European final. We are a lot closer to Sp**s and Chelsea than Wolves, Everton, Leicester and Newcastle etc. are to us.

Of course if we stagnate and don't improve and they continue to grow then that gap will get smaller but I think they are some way off us at the moment.

Take Wolves as an example, their wage bill was capped at £67 m as for all promoted teams, they can only grow that by 7% + increased revenue, it will take a long time before they can offer players anywhere near the wages the top 6 can. The same applies to Leicester, Everton and Newcastle to a lesser extent. It was and still is a massive deal that Leicester gave Vardy £100k per week, he is their star striker, we pay more than that to a very average left back.

It is very easy to think how average and poor we are because we are comparing ourselves to the likes of Man City and Liverpool, record breaking domestic treble winners and the European champions. It is hard not looking a bit **** compared to them! But we are still in the top 10 richest and desirable clubs in the World to players. Ok we aren't going to going out and buying a team £50m+ players but we can still attract some very good players and build an exciting and competitive team with some clever recruitment.

I generally agree with you, but it think this largely depends on what happens with this club in the summer.

If teams just below is continue to strengthen like they have, Wolves and Everton, and I reckon West Ham too, and those above us do too, then I think the gap will be closer than we’d like to imagine.

There are many teams who are very close to us atm so it could be a total disaster if we didn't move properly. We could find ourselves around the 10th spot next season.

There is still media talk that our transfer budget is £40 million, Unless that is augmented from sales - and most of the players we want out won't attract much money - then that is really not a lot. Two squad players maybe.

Meanwhile, whatever people's preferences, we lose Ramsey, Welbeck and Cech from this year's squad, so our senior squad will be reduced. This means giving younger players more minutes and hopefully some of them step up and we end up with an improved squad. But we won't know for some time.

The ability of Sp uds to hold on to decent players paying less than we do proves that players do take into account which way a team appears to be going in deciding which team to sign for. Arsenal brand is not seen as being on the way up at the moment.

If Newcastle (or whoever) are bought up by big money the owner will find a way to put money into the club, make no mistake. And the lesser teams mentioned will attract better commercial deals and players looking for a step up, so can't be Kronklacent about them either.

Our net spend each season over the past 5 years has been £40m anyway. Just means we will have to buy cheaply and get rid of some more players.

Sp**s are so lucky that their players lack ambition. Every player we had in the past wanted to win with us or move to a club that won things. We need to tread carefully and take nothing for granted.

The problem is no one will think they can afford Kane in this present moment. Even Madrid or Barcelona aren't going to pay what would probably be 200-250m for him.

Alli hasn't really been that hot of late and being English and young again Sp**s would want a big fee. And he wouldnt interest most of the big hitters.

Eriksen is around 27 so to sign him you will get 3 or 4 years out of him but he too hasn't been that great this season.

Vertongham/Alderweirld have maybe 2-3 good years left and again wouldn't interest the big hitters.

So while Tottenham have a really good players their players aren't what you would call world class to improve a top team. A couple of players yes but the vast majority no. They just as a team get the best collective out of them.

City, Liverpool, Barcelona, Madrid, maybe Juventus would seem bigger clubs than Sp**s. Which of Sp**s players would really interest those clubs? Alderwierld for 25m maybe. I'm sure he will be away.

Eriksen for 70m or so. Not for most of those clubs he is on par with what they already have. Could go to Real as a Modric replacement. Son? Again is he better than the above teams wide players. Again maybe Real but he wouldn't make a huge difference.

Kane is out of the question financially for most clubs and until he says I want to leave nobody will act.

So Sp**s won't lose many players as their players won't overly improve those teams hence no bids. Any interest from another club will seem like a sideways move potentially.

Juventus love themselves old CBs. Barzagli is already gone, Chiellini soon to follow, so...

The thing with Sp**s is if they keep these lot and don't win anything and then Poch goes, they won't actually have much to them anymore. Football is gonna become much more cyclical these days. Teams will swap positions often and sometimes quite drastically; we've been seeing it anyway in recent years (look at United's massive drop off and Liverpool's come up, same has happened between us and Sp**s but less drastic). If the people upstairs use our resources wisely and plan ahead, we can overtake Sp**s easily in the future.

These guys give them there solidity and they are ageing:
Lloris(32), Vertonghen(32), Alderweireld (30)

Kane, Alli and Son are quite young but Alli is so overrated. So in a few years theyll be left with Kane, Son and a 30 year old Eriksen. Its still very good but we could compete with that given our academy, and then players like Torreira, Guendouzi, Bellerin, Holding etc hopefully coming into fruition. We defo need one or two of our attackers from the academy to break through though.

I think (hate to say it) that Villa will be back heavily in the years to come. Billionaire owners, historically a biggish club, won't be long until they come knocking.
