As long as Vinai isn’t left alone on one.

Don't wish to stir things up again with whose a bigger club etc but i was reading the blog on sky and this story came up

WEST BROM AGREE SAWYERS FEE

West Brom have agreed a fee with Brentford to sign Romaine Sawyers.

Sky Sports News understands the deal to be in the region of £3m, and the midfielder is set to undergo a medical with the Baggies on Friday.

Celtic had been one of a number of other clubs interested in signing the 27-year-old, who has just one year left on his contract at Griffin Park.

Celtic can't beat West Brom to a player, ffs. Why would Tierney stay there?

"Arsenal reopen talks with Celtic over £25m Kieran Tierney transfer"
https://www.thescottishsun.co.uk/sport/football/4528704/celtic-kieran-tierney-arsenal-25m-transfer/

[..]

The Gunners have already met Celtic’s asking price — but refused to pay the money up front.

Celtic are not interested in payment clauses that might never be realised. The Scotland star is under contract until 2023 and that leaves them in a strong position.

But Arsenal believe the clubs aren’t actually that far apart and can still reach agreement.

It's good that write-up from Scotland is just about the upfront + addons mix (25m total). Celtic might want a sell-on clause, but hopefully our executives can secure a transfer without one.

The deal hold up is only they want more money upfront we already met thier asking price it's shouldn't be problem. Can understand why we taking our time he still recovering and won't even start the season

It's got to be both, without one of a new winger or CB we will struggle to achieve anything this season. Without both it's pretty much a pointless season.

Unrealistic we get a CB that can improve us to that degree. Look at what Mark said in the post above, he puts it perfectly.

I see your frustration with our current options but one of the key reasons our squad is unbalanced is the wing areas and midfield. Plugging the wholes is a universal thing not necessarily fixed by buying a CB.
It’s a fair argument, but - to me - it’s flawed. Yes we defnitely need better players on the wings, and they can defnitely help us to some extent. But our current state of central defence is abysmal. Our wing players can’t defend all crosses in our box. We need solid defenders to do that job.

Because we lack attacking outlets in midfield and on the wings we can get easily pinned back by the opposition with minimal risks. It's one of the reasons why we couldn't consistently control games last season and conceded so many chances. A bigger and better center back won't solve these problems.

With the money available you can have either ONE awesome winger or cb(option 1), or you can have TWO okay players- one at wing and one cb (option 2).
We already have a squad full of okay players, so option 2 will not help us that much. We need to add a quality signing.

So should that quality signing be a winger or cb? Let's look:
No winger= iwobi or some untested kid (nelson etc) "tearing" down the left all season long.

No CB- holding and sokratis holding the fort, with bellerin and Tierney (hopefully) on either side. That's effectively the same cb combination that was responsible for our 22 game unbeaten streak.

The thought of iwobi starting all season scares the living daylights of me- so the answer is obvious

So you are satisfied with Mustafi and Sokrates leading the defensive line next year?

When Holding comes back we have him and Sokratis... Who do we have on the wings?
Ideally we do CB, Winger and a Mid. But we are forced to choose.
