Shame that he joins only next season given that we would need him now.

It might actually be a blessing in disguise that he can't join this season. Much better for him if he joins next season. Hopefully by then Tierney, new CB and Pepe have settled well. The whole team will be much more organised with a defined way of playing. He can then come in and improve us further by slotting in a well drilled machine.

Whereas if he joined now, the team isn't settled at all, there will be a lot of changes and upheavals both in personnel and tactics between games. On top of that the expectations on him would be too big, people would expect him almost singlehandedly to improve our defence.

Still a unpolished gem, we do not need him now. Better let him grow up in france rather than suffering PL pressure.

Let me remind Nelson and Sancho case, their difference in growth depends on number of 1st string matches they played.

Tell me about him please

Looked real good.

- Seemed so composed on the ball, was pressed hard at points and just casually seemed to distribute ball.

- Passing was fast and sharp, not just sideways into the wingers but also direct into the CM's.

- Did a nice little chop to get away from a Newcastle player pressing him. Then released a pass.

- Did a really really good block when Joelinton escaped, probably going on target.

- Few good interceptions and out muscled Joelinton at one point to win the ball back.

- Was beaten by Saint Maxim kinda easily but that was around the 60th minute when he just came on and Saliba was about to come off since it was his first pre season game he was probably knackered.

- Both CB's poor for Newcastles goal, and their keeper.

All in all for his first pre season game he looked like he'd walk into Arsenal's team backwards.

Wouldn't worry about that, had him in his pocket last season in a proper league game, Saint Maximin had to switch wings.

He is just the signing of the summer for me. I'm pretty sure we've signed a bona fide star center back.
