Player Contract Watch

YeahBee

Terrible hot takes
Özil, Wilshere, Ramsey.

Just had a look at our squad and the current contract situation, those three are the only players we need to get signed up on new deals.

Give them what they want.

Yes

I had been doubting Jack before his run now but man it is easy to remember why we love him

quite risky still, a pay as you play with huge bonuses would be in everybodies best interest, we fans would love him even more

@blaise we should play 3 in midfield go read my post in the tactics thread

Cech can stay if we buy a new starting GK

it clearly isn't Ospina and if not given the chance as a starter I think he wants to go.

The Times said:
Arsenal’s team spirit is being tested by the growing pay divide among the players.

The club have traditionally operated a relatively equitable pay structure among their first-team squad, which Arsène Wenger has often described as being based on a “socialist” model. That was shattered by their dealings in the January transfer window, though, with the arrivals of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Henrikh Mkhitaryan and the award of a new £350,000-a-week contract to Mesut Özil.

Arsenal’s players held a constructive meeting without Wenger last Tuesday and remain determined to arrest their decline, starting with the first leg of their Europa League round-of-16 tie away to AC Milan tomorrow. However, The Times has been told that there is growing resentment in some quarters towards the big earners, who have yet to justify salaries that dwarf those of their team-mates. Mkhitaryan and Aubameyang are the next highest earners at Arsenal after Özil, on weekly wages of £200,000 and £180,000 respectively, but it has been noted in the dressing room that Wenger’s side have won only two of eight matches since those contracts were signed, including losing their past four games.

To compound matters Arsenal are negotiating new contracts with several other first-team players, who will not be elevated into the top pay bracket. Jack Wilshere, for example, has been told that he will have to accept a cut to his basic pay if he wants a new deal, despite being out of contract in the summer and able leave on a free transfer. Arsenal have yet to make any headway in negotiations with Aaron Ramsey, Danny Welbeck and Nacho Monreal, whose contracts expire at the end of next season.

The club must also address their goalkeeping situation with Petr Cech and David Ospina due to become free agents in 2019.

I'd keep Monreal but ditch the rest tbh. I wonder if these disgruntled players have downed tools in protest. I agree the big earners haven't justified their wages 100% but the lesser earners haven't exactly put in performances that demand an increase either. Bye y'all.

Mods are unethical! Özil, come assist me please!
For me, need to get back to 1 year contract extensions for players over 30. Not risk getting into same situation we did with Özil and Sanchez.

If they want to stay, they take it. If not, buy buy. I dont think a raise is in order as they are both in the top 3 highest paid players.

Wouldn't mind a clearout at this stage...we will lose some good players, but the team needs to be rebuilt anyway, this would give us more funds.

Just build around the youngsters that all I ask, as I don't think the current batch of "experienced" are that good to begin with.

This is why I would be happy to give it to Freddie for awhile.

I kinda get why Auba would want a raise due to being the one average apple in a bad bunch BUT how any other player can ask for a raise (Laca) at this current time is madness..

The only thing that should change in any players contracts are goal and clean sheet bonuses to encourage these ****** to perform (which is even ridiculous in itself), but how you asking for a general pay rise when the whole team incluing yourself sucks..? o_O

Pro sports is got to be the only career where you can constantly demand higher wages even though your department is missing various targets.
