Just watched some of his YouTube videos. If he's being described as slow, he's certainly not Mertesacker slow, that's for sure.

Chambers replacement. That's fine, left sided and cheap.

Once we shift Mustafi we will replace but no chance we do until he is gone.

From a Tim Vickery article in September.

In an environment where most teams play cautiously and rely on the counter attack, Jorge Jesus wants to take risks.

He wants his team to impose itself on the game – and this means defending with a high line.

Almost all Brazilian clubs defend close to their own goal. Consequently, some of the centre backs are lumbering creatures.

Pace is not so necessary if they position themselves on top of the goalkeeper.

This is why Flamengo looked to Europe for a central defender. Pablo Mari has the lanky build of an old fashioned number five.

But he is no slouch along the ground, and – crucially – he is well accustomed to defending high, attacking the half way line rather than running back towards his own goal.

Throw in the fact that he is left footed and safe on the ball and he has slotted in wonderfully well to a team which at the half way stage has soared its way to the top of the league, and which will also be taking part in the semi finals of the Copa Libertadores, South America’s Champions League.

In pretty excited by this one I have to say. Clearly Arteta thinks he's good enough and so it's exciting we're getting a tall, commanding, leading CB that is good enough in Artetas eyes

So Arteta knows this guy well from his time at City? Willing to give it a shot then. At least he fits the right profile..

Interesting he used to play for Citeh until very recently. Really don’t know much about him. Hope he can settle in quickly and help us.

How people calling this pathetic signing and they never watch him play?

He didn't cost 50m so he can't be good.

The Ukrainian guy would've cost around 30m altogether so people didn't mind that one. But because this lad is from the Brazilian league and only costs 7.5m he deffo isn't good.

Lets wait and see, could easily be an ahead of the curve kind of signing. Left footed CB who's 6ft 3 which is fantastic. Saliba next to him next season. Also allows us to go for a bigger CB if need be if we get rid of Mustafi and Chambers.
