Mikel Arteta: Top Of The Klopps

We didn’t bring Mikel in for a short-term boost, we’ve brought him in because we think he’s the right man to transform this club’s fortunes in the long-term.

Early days, but I’m happy with how he’s tightened things up at the back; the goals will come.
Bringing him in for the long term makes more sense, he's young & upcoming with a younger mind, different theories then managers like Klopp & Mourinho, Lampard is the same aswell. He definately has already improved our defence, clean sheets against Burnley (probably not so hard though) & Manchester United now which was good.

Shame he’s got a total of about 6 points from a possible 27.

8 from 21 in the league, not great but not awful seen as we've played Chelsea twice and Man Utd in those 7 games.

2 wins from 2 in the FA Cup

It hasn't exactly been the new manager bounce we hoped for but 1 late, unfortunate loss from 9 matches isn't bad.

Feel Sol is very underrated outside Arsenal, should be mentioned in the same ranks as a Rio or Terry, never seems to though.

Titan at his peak though, from 2001-2005 there were few better, was always great for England too.

...love the way he dispossess Robben at 1:30, just brushes him off!

Campbell had that weird melt down vs West Ham I remember, perhaps that's in the thinking? Don't know, really.

Other than that peak Sol was the best CB I've personally ever seen. Absolute power house and could execute the two main styles of CB play effortlessly. Rio was also utterly world class, very hard to choose between them.

That West Ham game was terrible...Sol wasn't the same that season compared to before, plus he was going through some private stuff too...still put in one hell of a performance in that Champions League final though, everyone did, what should have been that year...

Would give Rio the edge, but think Sol deserves more credit...probably our only world class centre back, since Adams.

I was thinking today about how Mikel wanted specialists and it really hit home how unbalanced our squad was.

1 right back
6 right footed central defenders
1 left back (I'm not counting Kola, he is pretty good as a wing back but Mikel appears to favour a back 4)
1 defensive midfielder
1 right winger
1 number 10
2 left wingers, Nelson and Saka who are both kids
4 strikers when we play with 1 up top

Soares and Mira partly solve the first 2 issues but we have a massive job to balance this squad out.

I mean, Arsène was our best manager, without doubt...but we did finish 6th in his last season, and we were on the decline really as a team at that point...so anyone saying we would finish 6th-8th after that, probably shouldn't pat themselves on the back too hard, wouldn't take a genius to work that out...

Not naming anyone in particular ;)

Remember when I said we’ll finish 6-8 after Wenger? Spot ****ing on.
I don't, but you do like to tell us how right you are all the time ;)

Remember when you said there was a 0% chance we'd appoint Arteta?

Let me guess: reverse jinx making you the winner again?

Honestly didn’t think Raul would employ a newbie.

Don’t think we’ll finish top 5 next season either so I’m looking red hot on my Wenger call.

Don't injure your shoulder.

I'm excited that we're employing youth, as so many called for during The Decline. People are upset, yet youthful teams are generally mid-table. I am at peace with that.

I do lament games such as the Burnley game that are not enjoyable to watch. I do not think that will be the norm under Arteta.

I wanted Poch and was fearful of the Arteta hire, but to me at least, it seems to be a good call. I think it is reasonable to expect better and better returns, and Drawsernal will be simply a season (or three) to forget.

Loved Sol. The thrill when we signed him was amzing, out of the blue and taking their leader and captain, who then went on to have be so much successful with us. Can`t imagine how much that must have hurt the Sp**s-fans.

Absolute beast of a defender and every bit as good as Ferdinad. Certainly better than Terry and probably better than Adams too.

Wish Sol-Kolo had more time together, loved those two as a partnership...doesn't even get mentioned when people talk about best ever Premiership partnerships, when it was the damn Invincible one...guarantee most people rate Hyypia-Carragher higher, madness!

That partnership had one top season really, it’s nothing,

This forum is so boring when people actually talk about football. No one cares about Arsenal CB's let alone ones who aren't even here.

Go have fun and log out.

Shame...only 3 seasons together, after Kolo converted to a centre back...then only about 18 months of that together before Sol’s injury, and when Campbell came back in 2005/2006 he just lost something physically and mentally...loved them though.
