Pépé just screams special talent. Very threatening player for a defense, we don't have much of that on the squad. His ability to get out of crowded areas and take players on is just immense.

He needs to be utilized properly. You don't waste a talent like this by not optimizing his strengths. Having Sokratis as his wing partner is a joke. I do understand that we are limited because our midfield isn't physical enough to be able to have two overlapping full-backs. It should be dealt with in the summer and Pépé should be unleashed.

Seems to lack the final correct decision to be a top player. Cuts one way and hes already thinking of turning another way without maybe being reactive to what is happening around him.

Might be nice to see him during games switch sides and actually run at a full back on the outside rather than cutting in 3 times in the one move.

Hard to know what we will get with him but for 72m (whether its over 5 years or not) I dont think he will ever fulfill that price tag.

You going to keep crying in all of your posts? We won ffs, Özil assisted Laca scored, enjoy it.
Nobody is crying I’m laughing m8

Today is a great result regardless of whatever you may be feeling about me or Lacazette or whoever you don’t like.

He was our most threatening attacker today.

Final ball needs to be better.

Was at the game today. His biggest problem is balance and strength. His lack of power limits that thrust to build up speed when running in a straight line (e.g Son). Really, really needs to do some gym work in the summer.

The fact he cannot hold off defenders means he feels he has to beat them with skill every time, and most aren’t fooled by his tricks because it’s only his body he moves not the ball.

There isn’t much difference between him and Nelson right now but I’d like to see both on either flank.

Auba sucks on the left.

He was ok today, the decision making problem should come with time and better understanding of his teammates.
Have to say though, getting really worried about his lack of a right foot.....

It would help if after he beats his man he would use the ball rather than try and beat a second and then a third. Happened several times yesterday.

Kind of player that would thrive against city's high line.

How can someone watch Pepe and tell me he's a flop. He's arguably the best dribbler in the league. The ease with which he goes past player is ridiculous. Only player I can remember that used to toy with defender like that was hazard.

Our system currently doesn't allow him to thrive. We isolate him 3v1 everytime.

The only thing he lacks is ability to make the right decision (pass or shoot, Avoid or dribble etc)

You can teach a player those things. But the talent Pepe have, you can't teach.

Everytime he holds the ball, you see 2 or 3 players coming to mark him. Hopefully, When we've sort out our RB situation, things will improve
Sterling use to have that same problem. Arteta straightened him out. In a functional team, he'll thrive imo

He does have issues with his balance. I think other sports are further advanced in helping players improve their motor skills. It helps him sometimes, but it can hinder him when he needs to add power to a shot/pass/run. Should have some specialists assist him in improving this.

That's also why I think we totally misuse many of our players.

I'd play Reiss and Pepe as a 10, because they can actually beat a man and create chaos and possibly just nick the ball sideways when they draw a defender out, to have the striker 1on1 with the keeper.

I also would stop playing Willock as a 10 then and give him a chance to slot in deeper and give our midfield much needed athletism.
Actually only him and AMN could do just that.
Similarly ESR would be useful there when he comes back, but he's probably the only one of the lot that would still kinda work as a 10 as well.

Auba
Saka Pepe/Reiss <new Winger>
ESR/new CM - Xhaka
Tierney - Saliba - Luiz - Bellerin/new RB
Leno

Think this is much more balanced and something I'd go for in the future.

Moving forward, I don't think xhaka should be part of this team. He's arguably the weakest link in CM

We need a DM and an athletic CM.

If ESR comes in next year, he can slot in next to the said CM and DM.

problem solved.

Xhaka's good performances under Arteta has increased his transfer fee. That's the only positive of starting xhaka

Sorry, for the double posting.

I don't Pepe would work well as a number 10.

Besides, I think Arteta's vision for the long term is a midfield three, I may be wrong though.

I think Pepe's passing ability is underrated, but he's just having a hard time right now being double to tripple marked.

I just love players who have the ability to bypass 1-2 players with ease on the turn and if you put Pepe there, you get exactly that.

There's nothing worse for a defense than to have a player run at you in the centre of the box as any mistake is already pretty much a shot on target aka a big chance.

At the same time, if you have a CB commited to the player coming at you, you get the defensive structure out of order and a light pass often gives the one beside you a shooting position.

I include Xhaka because I don't consider him leaving realistic. The opposite actually, I think he's going to be a main stay next season in our first eleven again.

So I want a dynamic midfielder next to him.

Well, he's hoping we can get a Partey-type midfielder to add a bit of leg to our midfield

I think Tierney coming back could make an indirect positive difference for Pépé. Arteta could switch the overlapping full-back role over to Bellerin when Tierney comes back to hold down LB, which would enable Pépé to cut centrally and leave him with one fewer defender to deal with.

Tierney is left back version of Bellerin..... much more comfortable in attack than he is in defense. Either way Pepe will never be the preferred spear of our attack as long as we have Auba on the pitch.
