What needs to change?

We've been undergoing a steady but massive decline in the past decade. We've gotten progressively worse in the past few years. What are the things that needs to change in order for us to get back to the top?

For me I think our recruitment needs to be revamped

We havent necessarily recruited bad players per se, but maybe players that fit the league badly. Xhaka because lack of pace and therefore awareness. Lucas looks a bit lost, although he was magnificent his first six months here.
If these were regular circumstances plus if we got CL next season i would say the smart market moves would be to invest in two PL-proven players.

Depends what you class as 'top', if its to win the league I think we need a massive amount of luck with recruitment/player sales.

Our recruitment needs to be improved upon massively, we need to accept where we are as a club and look at signing players with a potentially massive upside in value, players who can double or triple in value, not 70mil wingers, not old cast offs from other clubs who need changing after a year or two.

Look to find the next breakthrough players and then unfortunately sell them and reinvest, obviously thats not easy hence the luck needed but we cant afford to go out and buy big with potential flops.

Suppose my next point would be player development, players need to improve at this club, havent seen enough improvement over the years; Bellerin, Holding, Chambers, Nelson, Mavro, Iwobi pre sale they all seem too have talent but its like the club just cannot tap into it for whatever reason, them names at other clubs I'm convinced would be a lot better off and we would want them here.

Injuries; god knows how we fix that, but I swear we've had an injury problem at this club since mid 2000's.

Maybe destroy the cursed physio room?

Arsenal Mania had a great run at the top, but all football forums start to decline at some point, just the way of life...nothing you can do about it, just enjoy it until it gets taken down.

Until we get a new owner I don’t think we are going anywhere. No major trophies under Stanley and he’s been here 12 years.

Liverpool, Utd, Chelsea, City, Leicester all won major trophies quicker than this once they got new ownership.
I don't think it's the ownership that needs to change. I think the people running the club are supposed to be changed. No one is buying us anytime soon. If it's the ownership that needs to change, we might as well pack it in

The club need to decide on a coherent transfer strategy, that's what has been missing the last 3 years imo. After Alexis left in January 2018, Ornstein said the club were planning to go on an 18 month rebuild so that they would be in position to compete for the title in 19/20. They claim that was their plan, but they signed older players on big contracts like Auba/Miki all the while not knowing whether Wenger would carry on. They should've decided on the manager then, rather than wait until April and invested in younger talent to replace Alexis/Giroud etc.

Well the ownership changing would be 50x more effective.
But yes we can still be better than this even under Kroenke

If Ornstein said get back in the top four, yes...but challenging for the title...

Arsenal's new signings, are very much seen as laying the foundations for bringing Arsenal back and competing for major honours again, such as the UEFA Champions League and that could take a year, maybe two-years. 2019 is a target for Arsenal to be fully ready for where they need to be.

Jesus christ I hope thats not true, if they were aiming for a title challenge 19/20 they have missed the target spectacularly!

Jesus Christ...

Either dumb by Ornstein to lie and say that, or ridiculous for the club to tell him to say that...did they not see the state of our team in 2018

Basically we need to start making and buying young talent. There is no simple way around it.

The recruitment over the last 10 years has been terrible. Absolutely terrible for a so called top team.

People talk about Wengers having an eye for good players. Yes he did but he heavily relied on French players obviously through his contacts.

Anelka, Henry, Pires, Vieira, Petit. These where the players that really made Arsenal successful. Yes there were other signings but Wenger was a specialist in the French market. Now it is much harder to be a specialist like that.

Managers havent listened to scouts. Boards havent listened to managers and there seems no real idea on the direction in terms of players we are trying to get.

We cant compete with the top teams for players. So instead of buying mediocre mid 20 players it may be best going down the really young route. Obviously each player cant be super young but we need to be the go to club for the likes of the Martinellis. We havent been for 10-15 years. We are no longer a club renowned for developing top young talent the last 10 years and that needs to change.

Our best hope is being that stepping stone club, buying cheap, selling for big money and repeat again and hopefully one or two years it clicks. Leciester clicked this year, Ajax in Europe the last few years (didnt win but a Europa League final and CL semi nothing to be sniffed at).

They probably thought that the Özil-Miki-Auba-Laca attack would thrive for a few years, and with Bellerin + Xhaka established in the team you only need a few players to complete the first XI with 3 windows to do it in.

With all of their reputations before joining Arsenal, you’d really think that team would push on. Shame that.

Not sure how our board thought that was gonna work, unless they don't actually watch football, that might be it tbf

Auba and Laca are two very good strikers, but the only way to fit them in is to play a 3 at the back formation, which limits your offense really...none of the four can dribble to a high level, which is something every top team needs...and we should have been trying to get Xhaka out of the team, not establish him in it even further!

Such an unbalanced attack really.
