https://www.arsenal.com/news/hard-work-continues-arsenal-training-centre Can I just ask, if you have a look at the pictures, go to photo 12, who is the blonde guy with Tierney?

You mean the guy on the left?

Maybe we've brought back Karlstrom?

Its Matt Smih, a central midfielder.

Funny, I made a comp on him last night.

It's also funny that this is not his first time in the first-team training. And you will have to further back than when Emery was here to find him training with the first team but there are pics of Matt Smith and Robbie Burton training with the first team when Wenger was still here.

Him and others in power really have a huge job on their hands this summer. Not much money to spend, huge holes in the squad and so many players that we need to get rid of. On top of this the Corona-crisis has turned everything upside down and they will also probably have games to deal with in the summer.

Mikhitaryian, Elneny, Sokratis and Mustafi are the most important players to get rid of and we should take whatever money we can get.
Holding, Chambers (difficult because of his injury), Torreira, Maitland Niles and Kolasinac should probably also be let go. Xhaka an Özil too but I have no hope of getting them off the books. Personally wouldn`t mind selling Lacazette if we can get a decent fee for him.

Really tricky spot for Mikel.

Looks like an interesting player. Very comfortable on the ball and pretty tenacious too. Looks to be good with both feet, always a big plus. you rate him pretty highly @MutableEarth ?
He's the most underrated youngster at the club in my opinion. His importance to the teams he's played in so far has been a standout - captaining the U18s to the PL South league last season and getting 14 assists in the process.

I didn't think much of him first time seeing him but every subsequent time slowly turned me into a big fan. I think he'll have a difficult time making it if I'm honest just due to the sheer lack of opportunity I can potentially see ahead of him. He also has a lot of competition just behind him, with Miguel Azeez and Charlie Patino both similar players with potentially a higher ceiling. That said, Smith is highly intelligent on the field, is a fantastic passer, creates good angles with his movement and he's become a very competitive player over time.

I hope he's given an opportunity or at least gets a good loan.

EDIT: This is a compilation of his time last season

Looking at that first compilation, doesn't look disappointing, has a good eye for a pass & a few good long balls over the top. Looked calm & composed to get that goal in that first clip or 2 around all those defenders against Swansea.

Who would you say is the most talented player in the youth set up right now? That you see having a potentially Saka-like impact

What about Folarin Balogun? All the highlights I've watched of the academy I've really liked his speed & skill his got. Impresses me on my FIFA20 career aswell.

Most likely Folarin Balogun is the closest to making an immediate impact in terms of talent and readiness. He's not too dissimilar to Nketiah but he's arguably a stronger dribbler and possession player. Both young killers. I could see Balogun breaking in at LW and proving to be a very able goalscorer from there.

Would I say he's the MOST talented though? Tough to say, there's quite a few good talents there right now. Miguel Azeez has world class potential but I can see him being a bit of a slow burner. He's capable of playing up a level in terms of his physical and technical ability but there are kinks in his game that he needs to iron out - all of them coachable IMO.

Also, I would keep a very close eye on Omari Hutchinson from next season onwards. He's now 16 and about to become a scholar after what looks like a very successful individual U16 campaign.

TJJ is an interesting case - he's in a tough spot because he's got the strongest competition. But what stands him in relatively good stead is that he's fairly unique in comparison to the other #9s ahead and around him. He's the closest we have to a target man - good height, runs channels, holds up ball really well, links play, and can even function as a false 9 playing passes in behind. If I have a criticism of him, it's really that compared to the likes of Nketiah and Balogun in particular, he should score more than he does - but given some of the fantastic finishes he has provided since becoming a scholar, I don't think that's something he will have a difficult time doing. Just more experience, more confidence then that will come.

I feel like Matt Smith will be another “Iwobi” as in, he’s somewhat very underrated and at first no one expected him to be in the first team over the bigger names but his quality and intelligence will gift him some minutes at Arsenal.
I like Azeez a lot but he’s similar to Guendouzi. I don’t really know if he’s a 6 or 8 and I am hoping the club helps him specialise soon.

RE Smith - I agree. It will only take one opportunity and he'll look impressive enough IMO that he'll quietly become a squaddie.

RE Azeez - I think he's a better technician and is quicker, but I think Guendouzi has a more dominant personality on the field. They both have a few tactical issues.

I see. You don't think Smith has the ceiling to be more than a squaddie or nah?

I'm not sure what his ceiling is - I'm being a little cautious in my estimation. I think his technical quality and intelligence could definitely see him become starting material definitely. I think it all hinges on the opportunities he is offered.

Do you think that players become great based on being given the opportunity at the right time? Do players who not get the right chance always end up showing their worth or is the moment lost at times?

My theory is that with in some cases players could have been great if given the right chance at the right time, but then they have to look elsewhere for their opportunity and it becomes an uphill battle hitting their potential.

More of a philosophical question but wondering what you think about that considering you watch a lot of youth players.

A lot of talents have emerged due to been given an opportunity at the right time due to set of circumstances.

Famous example is Bellerin, Rashford, Martial(Monaco)

I was thinking of Rashford in particular actually, it’s like the stars aligned for him.
