Excellent news. We were never going to get get a big fee for a 31 year old and huge wages and who is past his prime. Very important to get his wages off the books. Elneny, sokratis, Mustafi and Özil next please.

We also know he is a player starting week in week out for them recently with decent performances / production. They obviously wanted him & he has a value.

What difference does that make? He’s 31, has one year left on his contract and is on £180k a week. His club have no use for him and desperately want his wages off the books no matter what. He hasn’t been so good that Roma absolutely can’t do without him. The player and the prospective buyer hold all the cards. The closer it gets to the deadline the more likely we’d accept a loan deal. This happens every window. Clubs spend the whole window trying to shift the trash in the squad and end up loaning them out in the end.

The club would do exactly the same thing with Özil if he agreed to it.

If money is tight here get something. The 20m fee a couple of pages ago was crazy but no fee for a player that will start for a big club in Europe? 31 is nothing for Serie A.

So Mkhi has been great for Roma and we can't even get a fee?
This can't be true, right?

He had a contract until 2021 here and we can't get around 10m for a player, who has done well in Italy?

No way.
Guys come on surely you can read. It say Mkhi has cancelled his contract after an agreement with Arsenal so of course we won't get a fee.

Nobody would pay a fee for him. No different him going now to someone loaning him for a season and him leaving for free next summer. It got resolved quickly and easily, lets us concentrate on getting the others who aren't part of our future out the door.

That’s how it is when you give an average player 180k/week contract. The only way to get rid of them is give ’em away for free and even then it’s tricky. Do you think no team in the world wants Özil? Plenty would take him in a heart beat but not with his current wages and he ain’t going to take a pay cut. We should be glad Mkhi agreed to terminate his contract. That’s 8m off the books so that’s basically the fee.

What’s so hard to understand? You’re saying if we left it until the end of the window they’d offer a fee but why would they? If he only wants to go there why would they offer a fee for him, knowing we’d loan him out in the end (covering a portion of his wages as well) because we need to save on wages? That’s not even taking into account that we’d be paying him £2m in wages just to keep him until the end of the window in the hope they offer a fee (which they won’t).

Even if we don’t rate him as a player, he’s still starting week in week out for Roma so clearly they value him.

5m or 10m for Mkhi is not unrealistic tbh.

I do wonder what it means that we agreed to terminate his contract. We were supposed to pay his wages of 180k a week for another year. That means we might have paid now to get out of that obligation.

Perhaps with the loyalty bonus someone mentioned it's a good deal. But would be typical Arsenal to get **** all for a decent-ish player, while Chelsea would ship the same guy for 30 million to China.
