Yet again people call him average. He was world class at Real Madrid and if we would have surrounded him with quality specialy when Santi moved on things would have been different. Still a very good player.
This is one of the biggest myths / excuse that we have been treated to from the Özil fanbase since we signed him in 2013.

Seriously, it’s 7 seasons here and we still have people that believe this myth. To me Özil has been exposed as a very limited overhyped player at Arsenal. How come Auba (a striker) does not get these cringy excuses? Laca etc.
These kinds of special exceptions are only made for Özil by his very loyal / avid fans that have been following him since 2010.

Can’t the likes of Xhaka etc also use the same excuse? Oh, Xhaka needs to be surrounded by quality players to get the best of him.

Wouldn’t any half decent player look good when surrounded by quality players? Why should Özil keep getting this preferential treatment that he has not earned at Arsenal? He has been cuddled by wenger and you his fans from the day he moved here. He needs world class players like those he played with at Madrid or from the German national team in order for him to perform or look good. Needs this and that formation. Needs this and that type of manager to cuddle him. Needs a winter break. Needs the media to show him love. Needs the Arsenal fanbase to praise and worship him in order to get 6-10 good games from him each season. Etc.

These excuses have been draining to listen to for 7 seasons but we still have people that will not accept that Özil has failed himself at Arsenal. No one to blame but himself.

The amount of love, praise and worship our fanbase has showered him the moment we singed him.
The amount of excuses and leeway he has been afforded here that no other Arsenal player in history has ever been afforded.
The constant cuddling from wenger.
At one point when Özil was refusing to extend his contract the No10 shirt has become a major thing for him and his fans. Wilshere was wearing that shirt and Özil started his social media propaganda to get that shirt. People were pelting Wilshere for not giving that shirt up for Özil’s brand. I used to read comments like this: “Sell bow legged, glass legs wilshere and give the No10 jersey to Özil if that will make it easier for Özil to extend his contract etc”. And guess what, Wilshere was sold and the No10 jersey was given to him for his own brand.

Pay Özil whatever he wants (£350,000 a week).
Özil needs better strikers because donkey / lamppost Giroud is not on his intelligence level.
We sign Laca, Auba and Mkhi but still Özil never improved. The weird thing is that he just seems to have gotten worse with the likes of Auba, Laca, etc.
People said, may be wenger is past it and can’t get the best out of Özil. He might need an strong manager. We get Emery and we all know how that went. Stinking attitude from Özil.
Or may be a club legend like Ljungberg can get the best out of him. But nothing as always. Stinking attitude.
Or may be his former buddy and teammate Arteta can earn his respect and trust, may be this will make Özil start performing very well. As always, poor stinking attitude and we are back to the same place.

What am I saying here? Arsenal as a club have bent over backwards in order to accommodate Özil. Became our first ever big money signing. Became our first ever player to be paid £150,000 a week. Became our first ever player in history to earn £350,000 a week.

What more do you guys want. When is your cult hero ever gonna stand up and be counted? When is he ever gonna man up and take personal responsibility for once in his whole Arsenal career?

This myth about him needing to be surrounded by world class / quality player to make him look good will never happen. Wasn’t he supposed to have that at Madrid but they got rid of him? He was surrounded by good players but Madrid don’t seem to have been that convinced by him, hence why he needed up at our 4th place strugglers Arsenal.

No team will ever built a team around a very limited fair weather player like Özil. A player that is so one dimensional, a player who only does one thing (passing the ball). That aspect alone is not enough for any managers to build their team around.
Özil has let himself down. His counterparts (Cazorla, Silva, Hazard, Modric, KDB etc all tried to vary / adapt to the modern game. He has refused to even give it a try.
All he has left you his fanbase with are “What if’s. What could have been, what should have been”. Etc.

Why does Cazorla get mentioned everywhere? He was awesome but got an injury before he could do anything with us.

How do you compare a #10 with Modric???? How did Modric vary his game???

Hazard is a wing-forward and barely played this season. Özil had better stats in his first half-season with Madrid, anyway. How did he vary his game????

God, such an idiotic comparison. I do not know if the post was lazy or just plain idiotic.

"Legacy?"
you can 'lol' until your face turns red, but you cannot rewrite history.

Must be better than Messi.

Özil needs his world class teammates and tactics to hide all his flaws and limitations. When he is being targeted he will be invisible for the whole match. In fact, he is always invisible all the time, except when he needs to make a final pass. He can only plays alright in counter attack, a play that contributes nothing if we wanted to build our way up slowly. Never capable/bothered to helped us to dominate possession.

Sad that his legacy is being written by idiots who have no clue about what actually has happened.
His only legacy will be him being remembered as a greedy cünt who didn't take a paycut when players who earned a tenth of his wage all took pay cuts.

His legacy was people knowing that he went missing when we needed him badly to step up.

His legacy was the mysterious 'sickies' he pulled before a travel to play a match in the North.

His legacy was him basically done with Football at the of 29.

His legacy is pulling one of the greatest scam of all time by conning the club of 350kpw.

He will be remembered as a player who was content to ride the bench and collect his paycheck

Like when he won us the FA Cup after 9 years? Would've won the Europa too if not for Emery asking him to man mark some Chelski cnut.

His legacy will be him basically done with Football at the of 29.
He already won the World Cup and 5 POTY awards by then, so there.

Casc is 33 now. He left Arsenal at what? 25? Basically semi-reitred.

He will be remembered as a player who was content to ride the bench and collect his paycheck
He still doesn't ride the bench. He mostly either starts or doesn't play.

In fact, I would have liked to see him make the bench more after the restart.

Don't even now they got everything, tbh. copy-paste from Wikipedia.

The way you are loling and ROFLing in his thread, I should go ahead and add another achievement for Özil. :D
