There are almost no positives in the points you just mentioned though.

  • Out of the ‘transfer domino’s’ you mentioned, who loses in all of that? We lose the better player with the most potential whilst Sp**s sign a better player than what they currently have.

  • Specialist coaches for specific areas are really a bare minimum for any club playing in a decent league.

  • The U23’s is a gamble which may or may not pay off. We’re essentially getting guys in who have been deemed not good enough to offer new contracts

  • Willian might work for a year, 2 if we’re lucky. was a free agent. Big wages. Old.

  • Any Arsenal fan with an ounce of sense will know we’re not signing both Partey & Aouar. Too expensive, we wont be able to shift even half our deadwood. Highly doubt we’ll get Partey, playing poker with a pair of 6’s. We’ll most likely going for a cheaper option at the last minute when we’re already off the pace in the league.

  • Arteta may or may not have more control within club structure, nothing is clear yet after the Raul debacle.

Another season is over before it begins, same old Arsenal.

This isn't a normal season. We have the Community Shield today, then the players actually split up for 2 weeks for international duty. Add that into quarantine rules & the like it really doesn't matter apart from to the fans if we sign the players now or in the next couple of weeks as the manager won't be able to work with them anyway.

Even after that, the first 2 league games are Fulham away & West Ham at home. We should be capable with what we have to win them with what we have!
First big test after that is Liverpool at Anfield, that takes us to the end of September, & let's be honest even with a full squad with our targets we'd still be lucky to get anything there. And our final game before the transfer window shuts is Sheffield Utd at home. So we basically have Fulham away, West Ham home, Liverpool away, Sheffield Utd at home even if it drags to the last day before the window shuts.

The fact that its not a normal season presents us with a unique opportunity to close the gap to top4. We could spend that little bit more to get our first choice targets in early and have a proper team going into the new season, ffp relaxed so it could be done. Other teams (bar Chelsea) are afraid to do it, great chance for us to capitalise.

If we drop points in those games you mentioned In trying to save a few quid by waiting til the last minute how damaging might that be for our top4 chances? Its a huge risk & one I dont think we’re in a position to make. Look at how tight top 4 was last season, It went down to the final game.

If we get say 7 points or more from those opening 4 games then I guess maybe the waiting game might’ve paid off. Anything less than that and it hasn’t.

Trying to have a debate with you, we have opposite views on the window.

We have signed a specialist set piece coach because the last one was obviously pants. That's a positive but you turned it negative? Just an example.

Willian and Gabriel are good signings and a good start to a very weird window timing wise. Its only been open for 3 weeks and we've made two signings. For me that's very good.

I dont think anyone should be flapping or being negative until the window is done tbh.

So you agree, bar Chelsea who are cash rich & taking advantage of the situation, no club has really been overly active this window? Not the promoted clubs, not clubs who need to spend to survive, not clubs looking to push on for Europa League places, or even clubs at the top of the league looking to challenge.

Yet, you think we, who are well known for being among the most conservative with our finances, who are owned by someone who hasn't put any money in, in a year where we stand to lose £100M in revenue, probably the most in the league, and when we've done a restructuring including lots of redundancies, should push the boat out when only 1 other club who was in a unique situation has?

Exactly that. Its a rare time when no one wants to spend, we most likely wont be in another situation like this again, build a proper team whilst everyone else is stalling. For the first time in years we have a bit of positive progression finishing a season with a bright, upcoming manager with everything to prove & nothing to lose, lets build on that!

If you have an owner like Abramovich we could maybe. The fact that we don't, & neither has many others, means that's never going to happen I'm afraid, hence the rest of the market is slow as well. Even City haven't got Koulibaly wrapped up yet, & they've been on that case for weeks.

Ok then I’ll give you the new coach as a positive.
Willian as I said will give us 1 season maybe 2 if we’re lucky, hard to be blown away considering his age & wage.
Gabriel I couldn’t possibly say is a good or bad signing as I haven’t seen him play other than YouTube.
The rest of what I said, unfortunately makes sense, its looking bleak. Hopefully Arteta wins this power struggle going on at Arsenal, we will be stronger if he does. But going into a new season the way we are currently doesn’t bode well.

Im not attacking you when I say this but all your positive, warm fuzzy feel good faith in the club is wrong. They’ve done nothing to warrant that except for get lucky with Arteta which they are now not going to build on. If it stays like that he will be gone to an actual club with ambition within 2 years.

But really City dont need to strengthen much, they have the luxury of having possibly the best squad in the world, they dont have to reinforce their team but they will still challenge.

We could do what it takes to get the 2 players we actually want to challenge again, Im not talking about signing a whole new team like City or Chelsea.

We are in the top 10/15 richest clubs in the world. Time to start acting like a big club.

Define ambition? Is ambition to you having the owner spend millions in one window? To me that isnt ambition.

Arteta will be here for much longer than 2 years.

Didn't city lose more games than us last season? Arteta has already said it will take a couple of years to build the team he wants. If he gets the two midfielders he wants this window then surely that is showing ambition? Signing auba up for 3 years is showing ambition. I know you seemingly dislike the club, but I'm not being fuzzy or overly optimistic with these things.

Just see how the window plays out then comment.

I understand the desire to evaluate the current state of things but I don't see the point in rating the transfer window until it ends. On so many occasions we've done our business close to the deadline. It's all just speculation based on transfer rumours and questionable reports until then.

Arteta will be gone within 2 years if he isn’t properly backed. Bookmark & quote me.

We should be challenging for trophies and be in the running for top4 every season. Anything less is failure. We dont have to have an Abramovich (though it would be much easier) to be successful, look at Liverpools model. We could easily match how they operate.

regarding your other post.
Yes, I hate the way we’re run, as if we’re some midtable team that got promoted a couple of years ago. Hopefully that might change, too early to say. Arteta himself has said the club are still working out how to restructure the mess from yet another failed project.

You’re right in saying wait to see how the window ends but unfortunately for us, I & many others already knows how it ends as we’ve been here so many times before.

cant wait until the window shuts and we can focus on the actual football again as the window is more of a letdown on false promises than another midtable finish.

Its the hope that kills you.

No more signings til last 2 days of transfer window. Top targets have moved to other clubs, we sign overpriced squad filler.

Have lost to liverpool, drawn with Sheffield utd & Fulham, beaten West Ham.
5points from a possible 12 due to not having a decent midfield. Window ends.
